Light country offerings of corn combined with shrinking visible
supplies to develop short covering In the yellow cereal.
Wheat was under pressure during the greater part of the nesslon.
The commodity credit corporation reduced It buying price a half cent
at Kansas City, and traders had reports of more liberal country offer
ings of old crop grain.
A closing rally In wheat brought prices tip and the bread grain
finished unchanged to 4 cent higher than the previous close, May
$2.4J-3.44. Corn was l'i to 44 cents higher, May $3.2SV-$'2.36. Oats
were ltt to ai higher. May $1.15-K. Soybean were 2' to 8 cents
higher. May 3.93.

NEW YORK, May 11 WV Stocks
had to contend with "selling on the
good news" in today's market al
though many leaders were able to
extend their recovery.
The averting of the rail strike In
spired early buying all around. Re
ports that Russia is willing to dis
cuss differences with the United
States propped sentiment but arma
ment Issues, such as the aire rafts,
were depressed. Steels enjoyed a
late upward flurry.
Oalns running to a point or more
were reduced or erased here and
there by mid-day. Slightly mixed
tendencies prevailed near the close.
The turnover of about 1.700.000
(hares was one of the best since
April 33.
On the losing end the greater part
of the time were Boeing, Douglas
Aircraft, United Aircraft, Northern
Pacific (reflecting a March net
loss). Anaconda. Kennecott and
Oulf Oil.
Peaks for 1948 were touched by
Rock Island preferred (on a pleas
ing dividend), Southern Pacific,
Standard Oil (Ohio) (on an earn
ings Jump) and Radio Corp.
Bonds were selectively improved
and commodities uneven.

Bristol, was due for a Justice court
hearing Tuesday afternoon on a
charge of disorderly conduct. The
young man Is held In the county
Jail.
He was arrested last night by
state police on complaint of Walter
Ducat, 401S Austin, who told police
that Huffman created a disturbance
at the Ducat residence Saturday
night, tearing down a yard fence.

Mill Worker Loses

loss of his right eye In an accident

Wheeler was working on the

force. Wheeler underwent surgery

the eye was removed. His condition
was said to be satisfactory today.
