May 6 (TV-Strength of selected rails and oils today helped prop a still somewhat shaky stock market. Individual Issues pushed forward after an early slide with carriers re flecting hopes that the threatened railway strike would be averted. While top marks running to point or more were reduced here and there near the close, advances held a wide majority. Transfers were in the vicinity of 1,300.000 shares. Touching 1S4S peaks were North era Pacific, Baltimore tc Ohio, Sea board Oil, Union Carbide and Brooklyn Union Oas (on another rate boost). Better performers Included Santa Fe, N. Y. Central. Pennsylvania Railroad. Nickel Plate Railroad, Texas Co.. Standard Oil (N. J.) V. S. 8teel. Boeing. Phelps Dodge American Woolen, International Pa per and Paramount Pictures.
