KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON THURSDAY, MAY 6, ito Schools Combine To Give Annual Spring Pelicana Talent Show For Public Student from publio trade ehoels, Haered Heart academy, representatives of Oregon Vocational school, Altamont Junior high and Klamath Union hijch sehool com bined last night In the presentation of the annual spring Felleana broad cast and talent allow. A near-capacity crowd filled the RHUS auditorium to witness pro ceedings and were entertained for some 80 minutes by talent from various schools. Hie first part of the program, broadcast over station KFJ1 and sponsored by the chamber of com merce featured a lineup of music ensembles from several grade schools and 8HA, along with the OVS-spon-aored barbershop quartet and the KU band. Billy Houser, of Conger school, gave the lone non-musical act his reading, "Our Hired Girl," virtually stole the show. Received with equally enthusiastic applause was the C ecilia n ensemble, from Sacred Heart academy, while two diminutive Pelican school pupils, Aidine rrosise and Mary Jones, probably the youngest entertainers on the show, claimed a lion's share of applauding in both their appear ances. Margie Robinson, assisted by W li ber Elliott, emceed the air show, un- ider the overall direction of Chuck Woodhouse. neaa of the radio-English department at the high school. The program was climaxed by a choral-speaking experiment en titled "Forward. Says Science," writ ten by Woodhouse. Intricate sound effects and the 20-volce verse choir, trained by Woodhouse, highlighted the final presentation. The choir was hidden from the audience by a thin curtain, upon which was drawn the earth and moon, representing the futuristic trend of the epilogue. Various light ing effects completed the scene, with Cells Brown and Don Paillette handling solo parts In the choir speaking. The brass quintet from the KU band furnished background music. May 6 P Collections under the state forest research tax totaled 255,741 during the first nine months that the tax has been in effect. State Tax Commissioner Wal lace S. Wharton said today. Joe Hicks, chairman of the special committee handling the event, reports that space at the exhibit building Is go ing fast, that ticket sale prospects are excellent and that the show to lie staged in the air promises to be a thriller that will keep spec tators on the edge of their seats. Exhibits are expected to be closed within a few days, and the ticket sale will be got under way. Admis sion will be by badge, and children o! 13 and under wtll be admitted free. Chamber of commerce action on Klamath county membership In the Shasta-Cascade Wonderland asso ciation will be deferred until after a meeting to be held In Lakevlrw on Saturday of this week, at which members of the Klamath chamber will be present At Wednesday's meeting, an In vitation to visit the Klnmath coun try was extended to the "flying" soundron of the Reno chamber of commerce. It is a flying squadron hi fact, as well as In name, for the Reno visitors will come In a DO-3 plane carrying 31 passengers. The date of the visit has not yet been set As soon as it is named, plans will be made for the entertainment of the visitors from the south. Grade School Musical Set The annunl grade school Instru mental music festival will be held In Pelican court of Klamath Union high school on the evening of Fri day. May 28. The festival will include massed orchestras, massed bands, combined strings and other combinations. This program has usually been held in the afternoon but Is being moved to a night performance to enable more parents and friends to attend. Approximately 300 grade school instrumentalists will apuear on the program. No admission is charged. Play Ball! GEMS Tonight! Adler Award Competition Set Friday Twenty-four Klamath Falls grade school boys and girls are polishing off sharps and flats us they prepare for participation In the annunl Adler award scholarships Friday night In the KUHS auditorium. There Is no admission rhiuiio and the program starts promptly at 7:45 p. m. Because of the keen Interest shown hi past contests, the pro gram has been transferred from Fremont Junior high auditorium to the high school, Improving sealing as well as stage facilities. Andrew Louey Jr., director of music education In the city schools, announced today that out-of-town Judges have been obtained fur the contest. While Judges are making their decision Friday night, the Junior high girls' chorus will sing. Names of Judges will not be an nounced until ufter the contest. Winner of the contest will receive $100 for furtherance of his or her musical education, the award pre sented by Dr. Oconto H. Adler.
