Douglas McKay, state senator and republican candidate for gov ernor, will speak before Lakeview Rotary this week also and the pub lic is Invited to this meeting. Lakeview Lions will outline plans for the first annual variety show - to be given May 17-18. Purpose of the show Is to raise money for the Lions' eye-glass fund. Stassen In Portland Now PORTLAND, April 26 W Presidential aspirant Harold E: Stassen today opened his bidding for Oregon's republican May 21 preferential vote, his first test in a far western state. Stassen is opposed in the Oregon primary by Governor Thomas E. Dewey of New York. At stake are 12 national convention delegates. The former Minnesota governor, who captured the party's endorse ment in Wisconsin and Nebraska balloting, said on arriving here last night he was enthusiastic over his Oregon prospects. He opened state headquarters today and speaks to night at a public rally. Stassen said last night he was satisfied with a decision of Dewey managers not to hold any con ference with him at this time. Stassen said his suggestion for a conference was In the interest of party unity. Stassen will return east tomor row to renew his campaign against Senator Robert Taft in Ohio's May 4 primary. Gov. Dewey is due in Oregon ; May 1 to start a 10-day state tour. His aides have been here a week I planning the campaign.
