money with a fair portion of the
year yet to run.
The congressional appropriations
committee cut the park service al
lowance for penalty (franked) post
age about 40 per cent, explained
Superintendent E. P. LeavM. After
a summer of record travel and an
equal record amount of mall to an
swer, Uie park staff was startled
to find that 60 per cent of the
stamp money had been spent In
three montlis.
Investigation brought out that It

money from some other fund and
that there wasn't anythlnr to do
but make the remaining stamp al
lowance go around.
Accordingly, mall to the regional
office was cut to three times a
week, each envelope filled to the
weight limit. Press releases and
other services were stopped, re

for answering when more stamp
money came.
In the meantime, the Crater Lake i
Natural History assoetaUon, a non- i
profit organlsaUon, came to the
rearue with a little loan for stamps, '
and the staff Is doling out Its stamp
money the best possible way.
