FASHION PARK , i - i 1 M How Old Is Too Old? By EARL WHITLOCK The other day, I happened to hear a couple of men talking and one of them said. "Too bad about poor Joe, out a job at hi age. I guess he was too old for his work, anyway." Well, I dldnt know Joe and so maybe they were right. Maybe he was too old for his job. Maybe ha was a steeple' lack or an air plane pilot-on E,rt whlUocl Job that need the Instant response of youth. But lt did occur to me to wonder just how old Is too old. Because the National Association of Manu facturers made a survey, not too long ago, which proved that their workers over 40 years of age made as good or better physical adjust ment' to a new job as younger workers, 85 of the employers questioned said their older work ers were Just as efficient, were better accident risks and showed better cooperation. It you're beginning to get to the point where the grey hair are pretty evident, you might remem ber these figures and get a healthier mental attitude from them, Maybe you've heard of Capt. Mary Converse, who taught navi gation to 3600 young navy officers during the war, who is the Mer chant Marine's only female skip per. She's only 78 years old. Bhe wants to return to the sea before her mariners' license expires In IPSO. Just how old la too old?
