APRIL B, 1948 March, April Snows Vipe Out Threat Of Water Lack For Southern Oregon Area .MEDPORD, April S in IMe snows have saved Southern Ore on' oncoming crops, a water fore cast committee said here today. iThe prediction of a critical water shortage hna been wiped out by late March and early April snows. Good auppllea now are forecast for the Klamath. Umpqua and Rogue basins. W. T. Frost, In charge of coop erative snow surveys and Irriga tion water forecasts for Oregon, said most storage reservoirs In South rn Oregon have less water on hand than usual at this time, but consid erable greater Inflows from melting now are expected later. ' Officials of the bureau of recla mation, local Irrigation district and power companies said In the meet ing here that they are optimistic. Frost said most reservoirs will have even better supplies than in McGrath Hits Truman Aims PORTLAND, April S (At The democratic party's national chair man declared last night that he be lieves Russia wants "the fruits of war" by use of terrorism in Europe. In a Jefferson-Jackson centennial speech to a small Oregon audience here, Senator J. Howard McQrath. of Rhode Island, said he did not be lieve Russia wants war In the near future. f He linked the alms of Henry A. Wallace and Communist Earl Brow der as "equally foreign" to Ameri cans. "Earl Broader, as a communist. doesn't mind terror. He believes In the doctrine of enforced dictator ship." He said Wallace's sole aim ap pears to be to help deliver the presi dency to the republicans. He was sarcastic In references to Senator Taft of Ohio. He said "Senator Taft says he has 'no information of any Russian intention for military ag jresslon'." The speaker said both Taft and Wallace speak of peace, but neither "offers anything toward achieving that peace." The party chairman called for a continued strong bi-partisan foreign policy. Clear lake reservoir will get only about M.OOO-acrc feet, but w ill have a sufficient supply for lands served. The Ocrber reservoir will supply enough water if water users oper ate with great care. The Rogue river and lis trlbu tarles will yield greatly Increased water supplies compared with last year. The Rome itself below the south fork will curry approximate ly RS7.000-acrc feet this year, slight ly under the average rate of flon- for the 10-year period. The flow of the Uniixitia river Is forecast at approximately t per cent above the 10-ycar average and slightly better than last year. The forecast here was the last of nine made in Oregon in the past 10 days. Flier Dies In Crash T THOMA8TON.
