Wheat showed the most strength with bom corn and oati following the upward trend In the bread cereal. Gains were not large. Reports of high winds and some damage to wheat In Kansas over the week-end caused most of the buying in that grain. The market suffered a sinking spell at one time, but bounced back. Wheat closed Vi to 1 cent higher, May f2.46-2.4SV corn was to 1 cent higher, May f2.20-2.19V oats were lower to 1 higher. May IM3S-H. and soybeans were 2 cents higher. May 13.70. April 5 (IP) Buyers maintained control of today's stock market although considerable op position was In evidence. Prices hardened after midday with assorted oils and rails in front, Oalns of fractions to 3 points or so predominated near the close. It was the eleventh million-share session since mid-March. Trans fers for the full proceedings ran to round 1.100.000 shares. The wall Street strike entered Its second week without seriously interfering With operations on the exchange. The rail average was at Its top alnce September. 1946. with favor ites Including Rock Island. North em Pacific, Seaboard Air Line, Great Northern Railway and At lantic Coast Line. Several oils were at peaks for 1048 or longer. Better performers were Chrysler. Goodrich, Caterpillar Tractor, Dow Chemical, Paramount Pictures, Loew s, and International NIckeL Bonds steadied. Saturday W. H. Smith, brother-in-law of the missing trapper, posted the $100 reward with Sheriff Low. Smith said that at least three rela tives have continued their search dally. Smith said Saturday that the family hoped the offer of $100 would spur others on to look for Muslims.
