Two Big Jobs

The first project will be the lonit
awalted channel Improvement Job In
Lost river, embracing about seven
miles of Lost liver through Poe val
ley, some 10 miles southeast of
Klamath Falls.
Bureau officials anticipate 535.000
cubic yards of excavations In the
undertaking, and are allowing 300
days for completion. The contract
wiil include furnishing and erecting
timber, clearing the right-of-way
and furnishing and driving timber
piles.
Bid invitations will be Issued by
the Denver, Colo, chief engineer
about April 15.
The second project scheduled Is
another channel improvement Job
in the diversion canal which con
nects Lost river and the Klamath
river, known as the Lost river di
version canal. Its carrying capacity
Is to be Increased from 1200 to 2000
second feet
Enlargement of the canal will re
quire 1.050.000 cublo yards of exca
vation, 3000 cubic yards of concrete
and 340,000 board feet of timber, all
to be included In the contract. En
gineers are allowing 550 days tor
completion of the project.
Invitations on this project will be
issued about April 30 by the Denver
engineer's office.
These Improvements are part of
the general program Intended to In
sure flood protection for the Tule
lake area and making possible addi
tional land openings there.
Scout Leader
Course Set
The first session of a basic Boy
Scout leaders course will be held
at a dinner meeting at 6:30 p. m.
Friday at AHamont Junior high
school.
Dates and details of future classes
In the course will be decided at the
dinner. All Boy Scout troop leaders,
troop committeemen and all men
interested in Scouting are invited.
Those who complete the course will
receive the national Scout council's
basic training certificate.
Instructors will be Chet Hamnker.
Bill Ely, Duane Alexander. Paul
Tanner, Cliff Strom and Bob La
mott. About 40 men are expected to
attend.
