FACI TEN HERALD AND NEWS. KLAMATH FALLS. OREGON TUESDAY, MARCH 1, 1H8 MARKETS and FINANCIAL Grain Shows Moderate Gain CHICAGO, March 16 WV-Moderate gains were made l the grain future pit at the board of trade today. Buying, said to reflect removal of hedges against sales of ca-sli grain to the government strengthened the market after an Irregular start. Later profit-cashing reduced the day's best prices. The commodity credit corporation revised Its buying formula today. Midway through the morning session the department of agriculture buying agency said it would receive offers of cash grain only from 11 a. m. to noon dally, and accept or reject during that hour. Previously the agency had until 5 p. m. to decide. Wheat closed -1 to 3' cents higher than the previous finish. May $141'.i-. Corn was lower to 1 cent higher. May sa.SO'i-'s. Oats were l'i lower to l'i higher. May ll.n-'j. Leaders dropped 1 to 3 or more points In a fast forenoon skid. Ex treme losses were shaded near the close. Transfers were around 900,000 hares. The reaction was the sharpest in a month. Steels, motors, aircrafts, amusements, oils and a wide assort ment of industrials suffered. Touching lows for the year were General Motors, U. S. Steel. Good rich, Montgomery Ward, American Telephone, Baltimore & Ohio and Illinois Central. Growing war talk, critical inter national affairs and spreading labor disputes, notably in the coal mining and packing house industries, re ceived much of the blame for the backslide. Railway bonds were In supply. Cotton, toward the finish, was up SO to 75 cents a bale. At Chicago wheat ended ahead to 3'j cents a bushel, corn off S to up 1 and oats down l'i to up 1':.
