March 1 it Three teams remained In the running to day for the Pacific Coast confer ence'! northern division basketball title. But the fourth place Oregon Ducks will determine the winner. As the circuit enters its final vxk, the defending champion Ore gon Slate Beavers hold a game and one-half margin. Washington State and Washington are deadlocked for second. Oregon Slate clinched at least a tie for the title by twice striking down the Washington State Cougars in week-end games. But the Beav ers, who have lost two or three g..mes with Oregon this season, meet the Ducks In a single tilt on the Oregon floor Saturday night. Washington State opens a two game set with Oregon in Eugene to night. Washington has a pair billed with Idaho in Seattle this weekend. COULD CLINCH i An Oregon Slate triumph over Oregon would clinch the title re gardless ol the outcome of the other aeries. An Oregon win, however, would (1) bring a two-way deadlock if WSC sweeps its Oregon frays or Washington its Idaho set, or (2) a three-way tie if both Washington and Washington State mark up double victories. A loss for either Washington or Washington State would eliminate that club from further considera tion. Oregon State moved into its title tying position Saturday with a 58 52 win over Washington State. The Beavers, defending coast champions, trailed only once at 4-3. A roar ing rally sent OSC out In front 21-7 nri thev maintained a 34-26 half- time margin. WSC drew within ihree noints twice in the second period but couldn't maintain the pace. WSC'i Vince Hanson sparked the Cougar threats with 19 points with Cliff Crandall leading OSC -with 14, all but one tallied in the first half.
