Monday, February 23. it goes on the air at i p. m. through the following Friday, February 27. The last five days are of particular interest to parents of teen-agers as well as the students. The consultant. William McKib bill, president of the Klamath County Health association, and the radio announcer, Paul Alexander, will continue throughout the series. Texan Gets High Praise CHICAGO, Feb. 17 Oft A young Texan who stabbed a burglar to death with a pen-knife was com mended and released from technical custody Monday. j In returning a verdict of Justifl ; able homicide at the inquest into : the burglar s death, the coroner's 1 jury signed a message to Arthur j "Rex" Casper. 19, who slew the i burglar yesterday: "we the jury commend you for your heroic actions." Casper, a former marine from Bishop. Tex., and one-time resident of Lewiston. Mont., is enrolled in a Chicago electrical school. The dead man was identified by police as Edward J. Dicks. 38, of Chicago, who has a petty larceny police record dating back to 1929. Casper said he saw Dicks in a grocery store through a broken front door. He pulled out his knife, and warned the Intruder to stay where he was. Instead, the Texan said. Dicks sallied out and the fatal strug gle followed. Park Aid site. This is a umple of the lumball machines which the Klwanis club hopes to place in corn of business houses here to finance a civic project. Stockmen Veto Price Curbs RISEBURG, Feb. 17 iPh-Oppo-sition to price control and meat ra tioning was one of 18 resolutions approved at the 11th annual meet ing of the Western Oregon Live stock association which closed here Saturday. Charles A. Evans, Independence, and V. J. Philippi, Roseburg, were elected president and vice presi dent, respectively. Harry A. Llnd grep, Oregon .State college exten sion service, was re-elected secretary-treasurer. Evans succeeded Al bert Juilian, Lyons, as president. The livestock group declared ra tioning, and price control would re duce rather than increase meat supplies by encouraging black mar keting, and bring about uneven dis tribution. They asked for a reasonable ex port policy on grain and a speed-up of reclamation, irrigation, drainage, and flood control projects In the state as their arguments against continuing meat scarcity. Other resolutions called for the election of a pew sales and show ring on the Oregon State fair grounds including sleeping quarters for FFA and adult fair exhibitors. Next year's meeting will be at Astoria. Machines To Aid Park Fund A: a means of financing its rec reation park program in Mills addi tion, the Klamath Falls, Kiwanis club this week plans to place gum ball machines in scores of local busi ness houses. A large committee of Klwaniaus, headed by Mike Houser and John Holzgang. will contact merchants of the city this week, asking for per mission to place the machines in their business establishments. The space for the machines will be do nated by merchants as their contri bution to the worthy cause, it was explained by the Kiwanlans. Houser said that the gumball self service machines are expected to yield from $1000 to $2000 a year as a perpetual financial arrangement for the recreation park, which the club has already established and I: now developing as Its major project. Proud Papa To Stay Coal Miner WASHINGTON, Pa.. Feb. 17 (Pi Julius Paulekas. a coal miner, re flected proudly today that he is the father-in-law of one of the nation's wealthiest young men. The 60-year-old miner has been the toast of this mining community since he learned his daughter, Eva, married Winthrop Rockefeller Sat urday at Palm Beach. Fla. News of nis daughter's wedding, however, hasn't changed Paulekas' outlook one bit. "I'm a coal miner," he said yes terday, "and will die a coal miner. Too much Tioney is good for Eva but no good for me." Paulekas said he and Eva's moth el, now Mrs. Peter Neveckas, of Lowell, Ind., parted 28 years ago in Chicago. He hasn't seen Eva since 1932 when she visited him in Chi cago, Paulekas said. Youth Tells Of Slaying SALEM. Mass.. Feb. 17 iA1 Laurence J. Several kitchen knives and an electric flatlron were found near the body, police said. O'Netl said Reddy told him the Blanchord girl laughed at him for having married. He "lost his head and started to struggle with her," O'Nell quoted Reddy as saying. Apolonlo Perezz Sanchez, investi gator for the attorney general's of fice, said the senator was killed when two men fired three shots Into his back as he stopped to unlock the door of his car. Rent Controls Held Legal WASHINGTON, Feb. 17 (Pi The supreme court Monday unanimously upheld federal rent controls. Justice Douglas spoke for the cAi-t. He said "the war power sus tains this legislation." Douglas added: "Whatever may be the conse quences when war is officially ter minated, the war power does not necessarily end with tho cessation of hostilities." The court's ruling reversed a de cision by Federal Judge Paul Jones In Cleveland that congress cannot exercise Its war power to control rent- when "in fact" the nation is at peace. Jones said congress lost its rent control powers on December 31, 1946. when President Truman declared hostilities at an end. Jones declared unconstitutional the rent control section of the 1947 Housing and Rent act. The act expires Febru ary 29.
