PACE TEN HERALD AND NEWS, KLAMATH FALLS. OREGON FRIDAY, FEB. 13, I! MARKETS and FINANCIAL GRAINS SHOW BRIEF RALLY CHICAOO. Feb. 13 W Or-lns rallied In the last hH of the session en the board of trade today after a morning of wildly fluctuating prices. Touching off the rally was Introduction of a bill tn the senate which would repeal a provision requiring that the wheat carryover on July 1 should be at least 150,000.000 bushels. New buying and short covering entered wheat and soon spread to corn. The wheat carryover provision wai Inserted In the emergency European and relief bill late last year. If repealed, traders reasoned the result might be an Increase In exports of the bread grain. Prices were highly mixed during early dealings. May and July corn tumbled the 8-cent dally limit at the start and May (heat was down I cents at one time. These three contracts tended to lag behind later deliveries throughout the session. Wheat closed 6 cents lower to I1, higher. May M.3--4..3-, corn was unchanged to S cents lower. May oats were 1, to 3 cents higher. May 11.01 U-S1.01, and soybeans were I cents lower, March S3 -33. Stiffening of some recently slump ing commodities helped inspire early timid buying in the securities dm elon. Individual rails and industrials edged upward. Gains of fractions to a point or so predominated near the close. Transfers tapered to around 1,000,000 shares. : Ahead most of the time were Santa Pe, Southern Pacific, Chrys ler, Youngstown Sheet. Goodyear, Firestone Tire, International Har vester, American Can. Gulf Oil and United Air Lines. American Telephone touched . a 1947-48 low. Occasional losers in cluded Union Pacific. Rock Island, Standard Oil (NJ.I. Texas Co J. C. Penney, Dow Chemical and United Fruit Bidding, mainly by professionals, was attributed to the thought that the list had been oversold in sym pathy with diving staples and was due for a technical revival. Bonds were narrowly irregular. Cotton, toward the finish, was up 11.15 a bale to off 85 cents. At Chicago corn ended unchanged to off the daily limit of 8 cents a bushel, wheat down 5 to up 1 and oats up IS to 3.
