First of the plays, "Nine Girla," rollicking, 3-act comedy to be presented by the dramatics club is acheduled for Wednesday nlnht, February 11. The curwln goes up -t I o'clock In the high school gym nasium. Funds from this play will be used to spruce up the stage which Is In need of a back drop and curtains. Mrs. Edith Reed Is coaching and the characters and cast are, Jane, Lola Crowther; Frieda, Rosalie Wil kinson: Alice, Alice Sionecypher; Eve, Shirley McFall; Sharon, Pat Terry: Shirley, Phyliss Rowan: Bet tv, Pat McFall: Slella, Ardlce Long; Mary, Mary Reed; Phyllis, Pat Mc Fall. "The Admiral Crlchton" a four act English comedy will be presented soon by the senior cla&s under the direction of Mrs. Josephine Con verse. The date and cast on this will be announced later. Coming up also in the near future is the Junior play. Just now in the try-out stage. The junior class will also enter tain at a semi-formal prom. Feb ruary 21. The theme, in keeping with centennial celebrations throughout the state will be "The Forty-Nlncrs." The dance is Invitational. Ship Reaches Port After Wild Trip HULL, Eng., Feb. 11 tPt The 2000 - ton steamship Springfjord docked here today after a night mare Atlantic crossing in which two Britons lost their lives. Chief Officer William Georgeson and Able Seaman Frank Smith were swept overboard by giant seas and vanished while the ship was hove to in a gale. The storm carried away the ventilator cowlings and pushed stanchions through the steel deck. Seamen said the ship's car went mad. The deck cargo had to be jetti soned. The vessel sailed from Halifax. X. 6., three weeks ago. Chiloquin Store Looted Sunday Fenton Mahrt, Chiloquin chief of police, reported yesterday to Kla math Falls police that the Chilo quin store was entered some time Sunday night, and a number of articles stolen. Included in the loot was a man's wrist watch, a Winchester 22 caliber rifle and Remington .23 caliber rifle. Mahrt report no arrests or suspects in the burglary. Local officers were asked to check second-hand stores in Klamath Falls for the missing Items. Vet Educational Benefits Drop SALEM, Feb. 11 JP) A total of 796 veterans received Oregon edu cational benefits in 1947, a 21 per cent decrease from the 1013 who got benefits In 1946, the state de partment of veterans affairs said today. The benefits amount to $35 a month for each veteran while he at tends school. Moss was operating the truck which had just rounded a sweeping curve when the accident occurred. Rippepoe was uninjured. A passing motorist took Moss and Phelan to Klamath Agency hospital and they were moved at 3 p. m. by Professional Ambulance Service to the hospital here. Moss has several head cuts and a badly injured back and Phelan has cuts and bruises and a hip injury. The accident occurred about 1 p. m. British Honor General Clay BERLIN. Feb. 11 uV Uen. Lucius D. Clay received today the insignia of knight commander, order of the British empire. Gen. Sir Brian H. Robertson, Brit ish zone commander, decorated the U. S. military governor In Germany at Laucnster house, headquarters of the British military government. The citation mentioned Clay's services as deputy chief-of-slaff for requirements and resources in March. 194'J. as assistant chlef-of-staff for materiel in July. 1943. and director of materiel in 1943. "He extended unfailing coopera tion and assistance of the officers of the Brit.'sh army staff and the British ministry of supply mission." the citation said. Clay is a native of Marietta. Ga. Sydney Stocks Show Big Decline SYDNEY, Feb. 11 (TV-Widespread price declines on the Sydney stock exchange wiped hundreds of thou sands of pounds off the value of leading stocks Tuesday. Chinese Cancel New Year's Spree PORTLAND, Feb. 11 U Port land's Chinese did not publicly cele brate the Chinese New Year Tues day. Missing were the parading drag ons and fireworks of former years. Most Chinese business firms were closed, however, and American and Chinese flags were on display.
