At present, the maritime commis sion controls sea commerce between the United States and the two terri tories. But the interstate commerce act delegates to the interstate com merce commission the duty of regu lating the rates charged by water carriers, with certain exceptions, operating "between a point in state and a point in any other state." Therefore, officials of both the maritime commission and the inter state commerce commission told a reporter, unless congress amends the interstate commerce act simul taneously with the admission of Hawaii or Alaska as a state the Interstate commerce commission probably would assume jurisdiction automatically over the bulk of ship ping between the mainland and the new off-shore state.
