At their bottoms, losses In wheat ranged from 33'. to 40S cents from seasonal high levels. In corn from S8 to 39 cents. In oats from 1714 to 33 cents, In soybeans from 71 to 7S" cents and In lard from 17.72 to 18.13 a hundred pounds. In most grain contracts the seasonal peaks were made on Friday, January 18. The peak on May wheat, however, was made November 98 1M7 while that on May oats was established January 23. The peaks In' lard 'were made on November 28, 1947. while those in soybeans were cored on January 15 and January 16. Prices opened on sharp declines today. A small-scale rally then developed. It was followed by a selling wave about mid-way In the session, sending quotations down to their dally limits. Dealings, active In the forenoon, quieted somewhat after midday as mild recovery at tempts were assayed. While extreme losses were reduced here and there near the close, recessions of fractions to 3 or more points maintained a wide ma jority with virtually all groups af fected. A social domestic help plan Is also in force there through which some 2000 trained women are hired by the government and made available to low Income fnmllles for housekeep ing, practical nursing or child care during emergencies. Good Forage Will Result In Reseeding An Increase In foruge production will result- when native grass and sod-bound Dlue grass postures are reseeded to mixtures of Improved varieties. New pasture seeding v.ith approved mixtures will also outyleld older established pastures. A list of Improved pasture mix tures carrying AAA payments is available at the county agent's of fice. Three or four grasses and one o- two legumes usually make up a pasture mixture, depending upon conditions. Alta fescue is one grass that Li adapted to most conditions in Klamath county. It will grow o-i virtually any soil, wet or dry, acid or alkali. Alta fescue Is a long lived, high yielding, bunch type grass that sends its roots deeper In to tough soils than other grasses. Consequently It builds humus and Improves wornout soils. Smooth brome Is another grass that could be used In most mix tures planted In the county. On wet lands, meadow foxtail, a most palatable grass that sheep and cat tk' relish, could be used to good ad vantage.
