S3 voir cvSIEr : OTo MARKETS and FINANCIAL Grains Marked Down Sharply CHICAGO, Jan. 36 (.P) drains were marked down sharply on the board of trade today as the Southwestern winter wheat belt received good snows and receipts of cash corn expanded. Hedging pressure from the Southwest was apparent In the wheat pit. Brokers said there was little support In the market other than some lifting of hedges by cash houses against sales of wheat to the Commodity Credit corporation. They added the government was buying only on a 'scale-down' basis. Some traders also thought devaluation of the French franc might have caused liquidation. Ordinarily, they said, such devaluation would tend to lower French buying power as It would require more francs to Import wheat from the country. However, at present France Is buying Willi dollar credits loaned by this country, they said. Wheat closed 3-V lower. May f2.89-3.88. corn was 2i-SH lower. May 2 69W-. oats were 13 lower, May 1.24-1J3, and soybeans were 4 to 64 lower, March $4.16. The Commodity Credit corporation continued to buy wheat The agency announced It had taken 170.000 bushels at Minneapolis, 600,795 bushels at Chicago and 740.000 bushels at Kansas City last week-end. It was believed the agency was in the market again today.
