Already the shops have reported terrific sales of Valentines which range from conilo affairs to lace und sntln which seem to go hand In hand with the day of hearts, Cupids and arrows. 8t. Valentine's Day this year fulls on a Saturday, Idenl for purtiea. Must be that Mammas are getting the young fry decked out In Valentine party dresses, so crowded are the pattern counters nnd tha yardage departments. Sheers, linens, piques, lawn and batiste are being whipoed off the bolt by the yard and we mean by the yard what with the demands of these new fuller than full skirts of which even the youngest of the younger set is becoming fashion conscious. Southbound Thursday night were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bell who art spending the rest of January in Southern California. Jast returned Irom San Francisco the Dick Rccders. They report wonderful spring wcalhcr. Just like we're having, only warmer. Klamath folks who have had a good view of the new Magnln's store are high In their praise of the establishment. The Marvin Nerscths, who spent quite a bit of last week In San Francisco, were very enthusiastic, as were the Reeders. Visitors here this week are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moscr of Corvallls who are visiting Mrs. Moser's family, the Houstons. Mrs. Moser is the former Vera Houston and served as Klamath county treasurer quite a few years ago. And from Portland Friday evening and guests of Dr. and Mrs. Nell F. The Blacks with daughter Janie Just returned from a several days' visit in Port land. While there Ruth Black ran on to Grace Miller In downtown Portland and they had a visit about home folks. The S. P. Millers' older boy, Tom, is now a pre-med student at Portland university. Johnny Epley is in receipt of a play-by-mail chess kit. The Idea is to play an opponent by mall six at a time. But all offensive language is discouraged to the point where the rules go like this: "Any player who writes in a discourteous or offensive manner to an opponent may, at the discretion of the postal editor, be barred from further tournament play and all his games may be forfeited." None of this "what did you make that play two weeks ago Sunday for, you so n' so." Running up the flag are Mr. and Mrs. Horace E. Getz Sr., of 511 Pacific Terrace, who are thrilled over the arrival of their first grand child, a daughter, to Mr. and Mrs. Horace Jr., at Richland, Washing ton. The little girl, Barbara Pamela, weighed 6 pounds ' ounce at birth. Horace Jr. Is Junior engineer In the design department of Gen eral Electric company at the Hanford engineering works. Kathleen Thompson properly handled the chlckenpox in her ex treme youth, but husband Bob has been at home for the past 10 days with the ailment which, in turn, was transmitted to daughter Sue. Dates for the annual spring concert by the KUHS music department, as announced by Andy Loney are March 5 and March 11. You can buy your tickets from stu dents of the department. Those who make it a habit of going wouldn't miss the concerts for anything. Incidentally, at the first concert the band and girls' glee club will be featured, along with Madelon, and at the second, the a cappella choir and orchestra will be the attraction. Looks like everybody should go to both, which they probably will. In the mail colorful pitcher postcards from Frank and Elsie Weaver, one earlier this week Miami-bound, the other postmarked Key West. They are on their way home by now, no doubt, and should be here some time next week. They spent the holidays in Minnesota, and Just decided on the southern Jaunt. Say they've hit wonderful weather. Word from the Steve Kaspers who were here in war years, stationed at the Marine Barracks while Cmdr. Kasper was with the navy. Jo Kasper writes that she spent the holidays in New York and after midnight services, was Joined by Alice and Winifred Lamm who returned home with her family for a festive supper. Jo Kasper plans to leave early in February for Long Beach, Calif., to remain for a time. And a note from the E. D. Johnsons in Portland. Edna Johnson writes that at present she is "immobilized" with a fractured ankle after slipping on the kitchen linoleum just after the holidays. It gives her time to catch up on her correspondence, she observed cheerfully. Another Klamath resident who Clipper is Mrs. William Yates of early Sunday morning, driving to the Clipper to the Islands. She will may possibly be able to join her on The lovely old gowns of another year but the year from which today's New Look is borrowed, were loaned by the Gerber and Bowne families for the assembly at Fremont Junior high school Friday after noon. Miriam Gerocr had a pair of brown kid, high-top laced shoes with long pointed toes which one of the models was supposed to wear. The shoes look suspiciously like some ot the pointed affairs (with Louis heels, tool, that are shown in February style magazines. Ladies! Going back to the St. Valentine': Day theme.
