HERALD AND NEWS,. KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON MONDAY, DEC. 8, 1947 PACE TWO Eisenhower May Step Out Of Uniform In January; Hat-ln-Rina Rumor Grows WASHINGTON, Dec. MWFrn.li Indlraliona that Cm. IImIkM IK Klacnliowrr may trp out of uni form In January coincided today with reports- of Increased activity In his behalf as a possible republican presidential candidate. Although the army chief of staff has been vague about his quitting time, there Is evidence that the previous schedule for him to take over the presidency of Columbia Christmas Toy Stock Said Down Bv WILLIAM FERRIS CHICAGO, Dec. 8 iP Santa Claus will bring a greater variety of tovs this Christmas than any year since before the war. but the Jolly fellow's Yuletide sack will be short on quantity. That's the word from the nation's tmdlns toy manufacturers at the Chicago merchandise mart It isn't exactly Santa's fault that he won t have ample stocks. The " trouble Is that even he can get i tied up in economics. That's what happened this year, manufacturers ! ,8'V' Why Shortage? ' At the Xiitt of the year economic ! conditions were what the serious writers call "uncertain." Lots of people thought there'd be a re cession, causing lower prices later In the year. Many retailers didn't order far ahead. Most manufacturers wouldn't take the chance of building up a large toy inventory, fearful they'd be un able to sell the goods. Now the re tailers, less afraid ol that recession, aro pouring in their orders and manufacturers are setting produc tion records. But there aren't going to be enough toys to meet the orders. Biggest scarcity, the manufactu rers say, will be In composition dolls. This summer's heat and hu midity prevented the composition from "setting." Production during July, August and September was negligible. (These dolls are made from glycerine, wood pulp and glue.) Milk Car As for the toys themselves, there will be: A new electric milk car operated by remote control. The door pops open and out comes a realistic milk man to deliver milk cans on a platform. A tornado racer, motivated by air-compression type force. It will speed for 125 feet at IS miles an hour, making a noise like a gas engine. (Just the thing for those rainy, Indoor days.) Automatic train semaphores, back on the market for the first time since 1939. After the toy train passes, the signal automatically changes from green to red. A new aluminum soda fountain that has four real syrup pumps and one soda water pump. Stuffed Animals A toy garage with automatic ele vator, grease-rack, gasoline pump, washing apparatus and cars. A variety of stuffed animals. In cluding donkeys and elephants so that moppets can make their presidential year choices early. And one of the mall order houses Is offering an "automatic energy" chemical set with uranium ore spe cimen and "an amazing instrument that actually shows the splitting of an atom." ..r,v5l"T,rr THE MIRACLE AUTO PAINT THAT t N Bro.K j Now you can giv yowf cor high glotl proftttional point job air, quick tr wtih DAB, th ntw wondtr wio lifoint that Itavti m ilrtoki or lopmorktl AH you do U WIPE IT ON with tht applicator pod provtdtd frto. tokit only an hour to apply, tokot only on kowr to dry dvil-frotl Now Available In Klamath Falli At COLORS lifM MarM ! Omar Bradley as his successor. Bradl '. whose transfer from head of the veterans administration back to the army was effective last Mon day, will be available for his new assignment shortly after January 1. While Eisenhower may remain for a time to advise his successor, friends say that any extended stay is likely to become embarrassing for both men. Although the five-star lencral has dodged questions about his avail ability for the nomination, politi cians have becun to count him as a major factor in the race which already has these three publicly an nounced entrants: Senator Robert A. Taft of Ohio, former Gov. Harold K. Stauen of Minnesota and Got. Earl Warren of California. Mostly Talk Previously talk about Eisenhower as a potential candidate has been described as mostly just talk. But an eastern republican sen ator, who declined use of his name, told a reporter the back-stage hunt for Eisenhower delegates is actually underway. As evidence of this, he said republican organization leaders in his state have been sounded out by persons who said they represent the Eisenhower movement, if not the general himself. Some who attended an informal meeting of Pennsylvania republican leaders here last week at which Eisenhower was present said they came away with the notion that the general was "talking a whole lot like a candidate." Eisenhower is reported to have said that the country needs "new leadership" to unite the people be hind the battle against riiir.g living cocts and in support of the American position abroad. Taft, also present, is said to have responded that it is all very well to generalize on issues but something quite different to meet them headon in congress. Francis Lauds OVS Facilities State Representative Carl Francis of Dayton. Ore., who was in town re cently to assist in the organization of a Young Republican club, visited the Oregon Vocational school and expressed his astonishment at the extensiveness of living and educa-; ...umu iuco .m iuc wxuciii,, educational program of the institu tion. Although Francis visited the school Saturday morning when there are no regular classes, many students were working In the shops, impress ing Francis with the eagerness of the students to prepare themselves for an occupation. It was pointed out to the visitor that the school is grow ing gradually and only at the rate students may find adequate living j and educational facilities. I "I am pleasantly astonished at the excellent work being done at tills ! project and at the fine educational i program being presented here." Francis said. "I believe that more' members of the legislature should visit the school so as to become ac quainted with the work being done." While in Klamath Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Francis were guests of Mrs. Rose Poole. RICH IN IN PRICE! Here's a tip that will make your family breakfasts HIGH in nourishment and LOW in price serve Wh catena!
