PACE TWO HERALD AND NEWS, KLAMATH FALLS, ORECON TUESDAY, DEC. 2, 1947 Tyrone-Lana Break It Up HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 2 The romance of Lna Tumor and Tyrone Power Is Just a memory today. The famous twosome, whose names were linked for months talked things over following Power's re turn from a four-continent air tour Sunday. The decision, a studio spokesman announced last night, was to call It quits. Tnlk of the romance was given Impetus when Actress Turner kissed Power goodbye before he left 13 weeks ago on his tour. And she was waiting in New York when he re turned Saturday, friends said. But Power skirted New York on his re turn to Hollywood. Miss Turner re turned here and they met Sunday. Power and his wife, Annabclle. liave been separated since October of 1946, and she announced last week-end that she was willing to give a divorce. There was no com ment on this from Power. Miss Turner formerly was mar ried to musician Artie Shaw. They Were divorced In 1940. Officer Dies Fighting Fire DTJNSMUIR, Calif.. Dec. 2 Fire of undetermined origin swept through an office building here early Saturday morning and a mem ber of special police. 45-year-old Glenn V. Belnap, died from suffoca tion which induced a heart attack. Belnap was assisting In fighting the fire when he was overcome. He leaves a wife. Jeweldine, two daugh ters, Mrs. Mary Lou Lindsay and Faith Agnes Belnap, and one son. Dean. Belnap was employed by the Southern Pacific as a storekeeper and had lived in Dunsmuir a num ber of years ago, returning in Aug ust, 1945, to take the SP job. Destroyed In the flames was the entire Malone building at the corner of Cedar and Florence streets. The owner. Dr. George E. Malone of this city estimated the loss In real prop erty at $30,000. The Macaulay beauty shop, D. A. Slriannl Insur ance office, state employment of fice and the Chambers liquor store were completely gutted by the flames. The building adjoins the Flamingo club on Dunsmuir's main street, which was destroyed by fire several months ago. Ellsworth Wickes reported the fire to Dunsmuir police. Wickes said he was on his way home when he walked by the beauty shop and felt a blast of hot air. He did not see fire or smell smoke, so walked past the shop again and placed his hand on the glass which was hot. Fire men were able to confine the flames to the Malone building. Hall Pledges State Service PORTLAND, Dec. 2 (JP) Gover nor John H. Hall, In his first public speech since attaining the governor ship, Monday promised to make his own decisions and accept full re sponsibility for them. "Being governor is not a one-man Job," Hall told the Portland cham ber of commerce in a brief talk. "It is one which needs advice and coun sel, and I will not hesitate to call on the citizens of this state for aid. "Yet, while I will ask and care fully consider this advice, the de cisions I will make will be mine alone, and I shall accept full re sponsibility for them." He paid tribute to the work of the late Governor Earl Snell and the two other state officials killed in the plane crash which elevated Hall to office. State Police Meet For Instruction State police from Klamath and Lake counties were in session at the local patrol office this afternoon with Sgt E. W. Tichenor conduct ing the regular December meeting. Information accumulated during the past month, new laws and pro cedure were under discussion. Kerns Sr. have returned to their home follow ing a motor trip through Southern California. Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Kerns of Harbor are visiting here with their daughters. Mrs. John Lily and Mrs. Ralph Johnston. Perle Dow has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Emma Dow, over Thanksgiving, teturning to South ern California Saturday. T. G. Clemmens returned home, having been employed by Clyde Laird the past three weeks. He was helping Laird move to his new home at Fall Creek. Mrs. Major Spencer, Mrs. Ted Jos lin and Mrs. Wayne Spencer, all of Beswick, Calif., visited last week with relatives in this area. Among those they visited were Mrs. Nellie Anderson, Mrs. Jameson and Mrs. Earli. James Randal and W. L. Frain returned the last of the week with Frain's cattle. Dan Fitzgerald received a cable gram from his brother, Con, telling of his safe arrival in Ireland. He made the trip by boat. He visited abroad a few months ago, but made the trip by plane last time. Residents of the community, who attended the 30th wedding anni versary celebration of Mr. and Airs. C. E. Burton held at the heme of their daughter. Mrs. Marvin Barrett, in Klamath Falls, were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Johnston and family, Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Kerns, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kerns, Mrs. Emms! Dow. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Kerns and Mr. and Mrs. Clemmens. The Burtons are former residents of Pioneer Community, now making their home at Cave Junction. Several who at tended the anniversary party also were present for the wedding 30 years ago. Mrs. Harry Ash and baby are with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. House. The baby has been ill with the measles. Mrs. R. E. Angus is employed at the Keno store. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Dunham, Mrs. Paul Robertson, Mrs. W. L. Poole and Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Cofer of Klamath Falls were visitors here last week. Haqer Dr. Marvin Davis and family of Klamath Falls have rented the resi dence which was formerly occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dalton, The Daltons recently moved into their new home here. Dr. Davis has out ces in Klamath Falls. He Is the second doctor to come to Hager to live. The other is Dr. William Bun-drant. Ike Wright went to the John Day country last week with friends. Mr. and Mrs. James Crawford have nearly completed remodeling their home. Dr. and Mrs. Bundrant dressed some turkeys last Friday that weighed between 21 and 25 pounds when dressed. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Birk, for merly of the Pine Grove district, have purchased the Dick Derry home here. Mrs. McClay. a former resident of Hager, expects to return soon. Nearly every family In the com munity was represented at the party given for the Henley Hornets when they returned Friday afternoon from the game. Mr. and Mrs. William DeCew had guests last Friday evening. Harold Mallory of the meat mar ket at the Y was quite busy Sun day dressing turkeys. Following the dinner, Coach Max Marvin Introduced each player, and a yell for the wnole team was Riven. Don Nenl. who broadcast the game for KFLW was Introduced and asked to talk, as was George Elliott, who took over the duties of principal this Mon day. Carrol Howe, last year's coach and principal, congratulated tho coach and team. The remainder of the evening was spent visiting and dancing. Mrs. Austin Adntns has been quite 111 and is still under a doctor's cave. Mr. and Mrs, Verne Berry of Prlncvllle spent Thanksgiving with Mrs. Berry's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Dehllnger. The ground and second door of the three-alary building which burned on February ltl, will be reno vated and remodeled, and a new lyii? of roof will be erected over the second floor. The third story which suffered the worst damage, was re moved last spring and will not be restored at tho present lime, accord ing to members of the Evans family who own the structure.
