Dealings picked up In the lore noon and In the final hour as sev eral , large blocks appeared, but slowdowns were frequent with quo tations generally giving ground. Here Is a list of records which ten during the day: 1. The September corn contract sold at the highest price of any contract In history, S2.31-V 3. All other corn contracts reached new seasonal highs. Deferred con tracts, representing the new crop, were at record peaks for this time of year. 3. A car of No. 1 yellow corn sold In the cash market at 83.404, compared with the former peak of 83.364 In August, 1917. Several other car loads sold above the previous record. 4. Com brought a higher price In the cash market than wheat. The 82.404 price for yellow corn compared wttn 13.40. Paid for No. 1 red wheat. All oats contracts also scored sea son highs, although not reaching the record peak of $1.07 established by the July contract last month. While wheat did not gain as spec tacularly as corn, it nevertheless made substantial advances. Wheat closed 4-34 higher. Sep tember $2,35 4-2.36. corn was 64-! Ts higher. Barley Crops May Top Spuds Potatoes, usually leading In tutal sales value In Klamath basin har vests, are likely to bo replaced this year bj the barley crop, the county agent's office advised today. Barley acreage in the area this year is 10,000 acres greater thnn planted In 1046. or 82.000 acres for 1941. In the neighborhood of 15.000 acres were planted In the Hannchen variety used for malting and the remainder planted In Utah Winter. Vaughn and some other varieties. The bulk of the entire crop is used for brewing purposes. Orowth and stands of this grain are reported In excellent condition at the present time and even with some lodging and light frosts suf fered earlier, a particularly high yield of good quality barley Is fore seen. Weather conditions are continuing favorable and some of the grain Is reportedly ripening already to threshing state.
