Au. 5 NEA Ford Prick favors placing a second Na tional league baseball club In Chi cago. Discussion of the California situa tion, with one camp demanding major recognition for the Pacific Coast league and another Insisting the National and American leagues place teams in Los Angeles and San Francisco Inevitably has brought up the St. Louis problem. President Ford Frick of the Na tional circuit indicates that talk of moving a St Louis 'team, either the Browns or the Cards, to LA is Just so much conversation. If Los Angeles and San Fran cisco were pre-empted by the major company they would go into one league and make the long travel Jump to the coast financial ly feasible. "My idea is to transfer the Card inals to Chicago's west side and leave the St. Louis to the American league," explains Frick. "Getting the Cardinals into De troit seems Impossible. "I am casting no aspersions on St Louis as a baseball center. We are doing mighty well there, but the Browns are not Eventually some thing will have to be done about that. "The most intense . rivalry,' the greatest box office boon in the National league, lies in the 22 games between the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers annually. "No matter whether there be boom. or depression, no matter where -the clubs may be standing, the series provides a race within a race. It's good for more than a half million admissions any old year. "If the Cardinals were shifted to Chicago's west side, they would develop a bity rivalry with the Cubs. The west side of Chicago is a vast territory which could easily build up its own particular baseball allegiance. Frick'e idea is just as nebulous as the others, but at least it has the advantage of being seriously con sidered by some big baseball men.
