PACE TIN HERALD AND NEWS, KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON TUESDAY, AUGUST 3, 1947 Memorial Park Plot For Veterans, Yeed Cutting, Lighting Council Topics ", The question of whether or not a special plot ihould be eet aside In Klamath Memorial Cemetery as a final resting place for local service men killed in World War II was brought before last night's council meeting, K. V. Zell, past commander of the Klamath Falls VFW chapter, re quested the council take some action on this matter In view of the fact many of the boys killed overseas are going to be returned and in terred here. In the discussion which followed the question arose If there should be special plot for those returned from foreign soil, or If this section of the cemetery should be set aside for all veterans of World Warn. The council's action was deferred until a study of the situation could be made. Councilman Coudrey brought a re quest before the council for the Im mediate removal of weeds from the city's walks. This was approved and It was decided the work should be begun Immediately. A mowing ma chine will be used to lower the crawling greenery on the strips be tween the sidewalk and the curb. It Will also cut the weeds for a distance of one foot Into all vacant lots from the sidewalk. Owners of vacant lots are required by a city ordinance to clear the weeds from tlicir land and therefore the city will not undertake this task. It was further decided that weed and grass burning by the city fire department should begin shortly. Fire Chief KetUi Ambrose had pre viously Informed the council of the department's readiness to do this. Two reports were read before the council. The Klamath Falls Animal commission reported the collection of 1315.50 during the month of July and the report of the chief of po lice showed 2.M1 in tines had been collected by the department in the same period. Bids on Improvement unit 94 were read to the city dads. This unit Is for paving and curbing on two blocks along Applegate. There were two bids. The first, from the Warren Northwest Construction company, was for $10,957.90. The second, from the Asphalt Paving company was tor $9,408.15. The bids were referred to the street committee and the city engineer for further study. Councilman Newton brought up the subject of lighting around the outside of the armory. He suggested two flood lights be placed on top of the fire station and directed toward the rear of the armory, and another flood light be placed on the Spring street side of the armory. This mat ter was referred to the utilities com mittee, Uie chief of police and the city engineer for further study. The one discussion of the whole session which seemed likely to get a little warm was a matter concern ing the parking of vehicles on the strip between the curb and the side walk on the city's streets. After con siderable opinion on all sides had beeu expressed, tlio matter was re ferred to the mayor, chief of police and the city engineer for study.
