Auff. 1 A steady building program that has Increased a lumraer advanced is adding numerous new enterprises to the town and aurroundlng commu nity. Largest of the programs now under way Is the Park motel, one-hall mile south ol town, that when completed will be one of the most modern and attractive In the basin. Co-owners of the property are Mr. and Mrs. PhU Park, formerly of Eugene and Los Angeles who wlU be active man agers and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Os borne, Tulelake. Osborne Is a well known potato grower here. Plans for this structure call for a horseshoe shaped arrangement of 20 unit 13 to be built Immediately and eight larger units at a later date. The apartment will face the Alturas highway with 30-foot paved drlvewavs, providing admittance to toe motel. Driveways will be buUt up to the door and no sidewalks will be used. The building will be of PunJjf brick made in Tulelake with red brick trim. All steel window casements with a crank type opener to provide ease of' operation will be installed. AU floors will be concrete with heavy felt pads and carpeting, and Sbe "Lumallne" lights wlA be one of the new features. Those eligible to receive the American defense medal, also a fleet or base clasp, are those that "served on active duty between September 8, 1839, and December 7 1941. At the present time these medal will be Issued at the navy re cruiting office, room S07, in the post office building between the ' hours'ot 8 a. m. and 4:30 p. rn. beginning Monday, August 4. The .w mortal, will be Issued only to those presenting either their discharge or original kiiu sheet, the 553. This applies to all enlisted personnel. Waves and of ficers included. Arrangement will be made to distribute the above medal to outlying ' districts, on regular recruiting trips. Men should watch for time and date of the recruiters' visit. Hawjs, former democratic sena tor from Missouri, died at his home here last night. He was 78. Since retiring from Jie senate in 1933 he had practiced law here, rep resenting both the Philippine gov ernment and the Philippine Sugar association in a legal capacity.
