told them I could not build destroy

for fifty." ,
Kaiser said the navy did not want
lo call his ship "aircraft carriers"
and at first "wanted to give, them
to the British" but finally "turned
the heal uf hell on us to produce
more of them." . "
"The navy reversed Itself," he con
tinued. "It was wonderful. Admiral
King came In and said he wanted
to help."
Admiral Ernest King was chief of
naval operations and commander In
chief of the navy at the time.
At the outset of Uie hearing Kaiser
protested there has been a "smear
campaign" against him.

mite to Clrorgc iDudi Oollum, 31,
charged with bludgronlng to death
Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Overell and
then blowing up their yacht.
The witness was Ben Smith, em
ploye of Uie Trojn Powder Co. at
Highland. Calif., and .also a Ban
Bernardino county deputy sheriff.
He was called toduy by the prosecu
tion In the murder trial of Oollum
and his fiancee, Louise Overell,
duughler of the yacht blnsf victims.
Smith suld Oollum visited his
powder magazine twice, the first
lime accompanied by a womnn he
Identified as Miss Overell. In both
Instance Uollum was accompanied
by a man who Smith uld he had
not seen before or since.
Smith pointed out Oollum and
Miss Overell at Uie defendants' table
as the pair who visited him.
Under questioning by Special Pros
ecutor Eugene D. Williams, Smith
uld Oollum a first visit to his office
was "Uie latter part of February."
Louise, he testified, remained sitting
in the car.
"Oollum told me that the Trojan
Powder company office In Los An
geles had Informed him I would give
him Instructions about using dyna
mite." Smith tesUfled.
"He asked me If there was any
chance of getting any small wire.
I told him no, that we'd been having
a hard time getting it during the
war. I told him he could have a
couple of small rolls that had been
used to make contact where Uie
lead wire was too short I gave him
the wire without charge."

senate subcommittee on Indian af
fairs will hold hearings In Klamath
Falls next month on legislation to
liquidate the tribe and give Its 1637
members citizenship.

lieved the "money should be given
to the people who own It" and uld
If the committee approved the bill
to give Uie tribe citizenship and let
them handle their own affairs it
would be a forerunner for ten tribes
which are in the same status.

ator Watklns (R-Ulahi also will
hold hearings on a bill Introduced
by Rep. Stockman (R-Ore.) which
provides that each enrolled member
of the tribe would be credited with

The money could be used for the
purchase or improvement of land,
construction of homes, purchase of
household equipment, repayment of
loans from the' government, pur
chase of feed, repair of farm equip
ment and purchase of other neces
sary equipment. It provides that
during minority Uie share of each
minor Indian would be used solely
for his education. ,
The measure provides that honor.
