Little In the way of bullish ma terial was seen In the news and the list resumed Monday retreat at the start. Dealing tapered subsequently. Approaching the final hour a flood of offerings hit the exchange with motors, steels, rails and numerous industrials under pressure. For about a quarter of an hour the re cording machinery was as much as two uimutea In arrears. The pace then slowed and extreme declines were reduced In the majority of cases at the close. Translers ran to around 1,500,000 shares. Among exceptions were Hershey Chocolate and Associated Invest ment company which pushed up on split proposals. The former added about 3 points on a single sale, first transaction since July 15. On the losing side were Santa Fe, Union Pacific, Southern Railway, Pennsylvania Railroad. Northern Pacific Southern Railway, U. S. Steel, Bethlehem. Republic Steel, Crucible Steel, Youngstowu Sheet, General Motors. Chrysler (at a 1947 low), Studebaker, Goodrich, Mont gomery Ward, Sears Roebuck, Doug . las Aircraft, Caterpillar Tractor, Western Union "A", Kennecott, Ana - conda, American sjneltlng, Du Pont, American Can, Union Carbide, U. The decline started at the opening on overnight an nouncement of smaller government export allocations for September, and lower government buying prices. At the low point of the morning session representatives of cash houses were good buyers, but the rally waa good for only partial re covery, corn showing the greatest strength. The selling was general In all pits. At the finish wheat was 9 cents to 9 cent lower than the previous close. September $2.22-2.23 v.. Corn was 3"c to e lower. September $3.04-. Britons Okay Ruhr Confab WASHINGTON July 29 (4v-The state department said today the British government has officially expressed willingness to hold the long debated Ruhr coal production conference In Washington. It was reported the British dele gation will leave next, week-end to come here. This means another delay in open Ing the talks which top American officials had expected to begin this week. Originally the conference was supposed to begin early last week. Uncertainties had developed about the meeting, after the British an nounced demands that either It should Include German problems other than coal, such as food and financing, or else It should be held In Berlin. Fee Dismisses Suit Against Hotel In a fleeting session of court (his morning. Federal Judge James Alger Fee dismissed the $10,000 damage suit brought by Lester Raabe of Stockton. Calif., against the Wil lard hotel. Court convened here at 10 a. m. and was finished half an hour later. A pretrial conference in the damage suit had been on the docket. L. Orth Sisemore was the attorney for the hotel and John B. Eblnger of Ebln ger and Hathaway represented Raabe. Hotelman's Death Called Suicide BAKER. July 29 iP) Death of Martin-V. Hart, owner of the Gelser Grand hotel, was by a self-inflicted bullet wound. Coroner A. L. Schroe- der reported today. Hart was found dead in the hotel yesterday. He had recently resumed ownership of the hotel, receiving it from purchasers who had operated the Eastern Oregon landmark estab lishment since last December In a deal involving a $100,000 purchase price.
