But he probably won't get to visit the River Elbe area, where he linked up with the Russians to end the war and swapped the Soviet commander a Jeep for a rid ing horse as a victory souvenir. Only red troops patrol the Elbe these days. The Soviet military leaders know Bradley s record too well to under estimate him. But he will certainly be a puzzle to the German people. Accustomed to the showy, barking goose - stepping officlousness of Prussian militarists, they will find It hard to understand this tall schoolteaehertsh-looking man with the kindly face who has always maintained perfect discipline with, out ever raising his voice. Even today few Germans realize that he Is the man who contributed most in the field to their defeat on the western front There are a lot of captured German generals, however, who know him well and respect him as perhaps the out standing tactician of the war. C. saved the community from destruction by fire In a 10' hour fight Friday, but only after several buildings were burned, mes sages reaching here today said. The Stiklne hotel, the buildings of the British Columbia mounted police detachment and the home of Charles Raines were burned, messages said. Walter Simpson, ho tel owner, received minor bums. Is one of the area's Important towns. Bevin Warns Of World Mistake MORPETH. England. July 21 f) Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin warned Saturday that a wrong de cision in the relations among nations now might condemn the children of the next generation to war. "There is no danger of another war in this generation as far as I can see." the foreign secretary said in an extemporaneous address to a coal miners' picnic here. He added, however: "I feel conscious that a wrong decision, a wrong judgment, or a petulant word now might condemn the children of 30 or 40 years' time."
