Dealings were among the slowest of the past three weeks. The going was a bit rough until the final hour when sufficient bid ding appeared to reduce early de clines and put selected plvotals on the upilde. The pace quickened tor an Interval but subsequently relaxed. While gains of fractions to 2 points or mnre were well distributed at the close, the losing division was well populated. Transfers ran to around 1,000.000 shares. On the offside were Republic Steel, Goodrich, u. 6. Rubber, Deere, Boeing, Western Union "A," Consoli dated Edison, Anaconda, Phelps Dodge, Dow Chemical, Du Pont, N. Y. Centra) and Pennsylvania nanroaa. Armour preferred and prior pre ferred executed Jumps of several points as plans were announced to redeem the former and pay off arrears on the latter. Bonds were hesitant. Cotton, toward the finish, was off $1.05 a bale to up I 1.20. At Chicago wheat ended down IS to 3c a bushel, corn was off c to up 1'iC and oats off "c to up C. July IB lA't Grains moved erratically on the board of trade today with dealings smaller than in recent sessions. Prices were down several cents In the early dealings, but ft rally de veloped under the leadership of corn, fair gains were substituted for losses. Toward the close, how ever, wheat again displayed weak ness on word that the government was still out of the cash wheat market. A lending processing Interest re entered the cash corn market. Spot corn prices held firm. Cash houses sold wheat, but there was good support from milling interests. Short-covering helped oats, as did ' reports that grain arriving here was of poor quality.
