Manslaughter Charge Filed TULELAKE, July 7 Charles BlumenUial. 29, of Tulelakc, was taken to Alluraa today lor arraign ment In superior court on a charge of involuntary manslaughter. The charge was filed by Gerald Wilson, California highway patrol man, who Investigated the automo bile accident May 26 In which Oeorge Evans. SO, Coppeck bay lease land operator, was fatally in jured. Blumenthal was driver of a car which smashed Into Evans' vehicle. The accident occurred on the AM turas highway three miles south of Tulelakc. In Modoc county. Evans' car skidded 60 feet after the Im pact, struck a railroad crossing sig nal and overturned In a ditch. William Harvey Ayres. 43, In the car with Evans, was iuirt, but Blum enthal was uninjured. Evans was brought to a hospital here but died 20 minutes after arrival. Blumenthal was not held by of ficers since the accident untU to day, when the Involuntary man slaughter charge was filed. To Forget Two Youths Flee Custody Of Quarters The county Juvenile department abandoned use of the Summers lane detention home for youthful pri soners last week, after a number of escapes from the Institution, and took over the basement of the health clinic at 1040 Main, but two boys broke out of that building their first day In, July 4. The boys, aged 13 and 11, had wandered away from the old deten tion home early last week and com mitted' half a dozen burglaries be fore they were caught by city po lice. They wore put In the health clinic cells as a more secure detention place, but they opened a door and got out Prld:ty afternoon, clod only In their nightshirts. According to police, the boys were caught again late Friday night after having broken Into two more houses and stolen a couple of .22 rifles, some clothing, two wutches and other small articles. The first house entered was that of J. W. Thompson, 638 Alameda, where the rifles ind other Items were stolen, and later the boys were discovered Inside the residence of L. J. Brenniin, 1401 Division. Edward Uretinun, who came to the house and found the boys In side, o.'i Id that they told him a story of being broke and hungry, saying that they were here to see the rodeo and had a room at a downtown hotel, Brenna- fed them, then took them to the hotel, but on arrival the lads broke away and ran. Bren na n notified police and the boys were picked up shortly afterwards. The stolen articles were recovered, and the boys put back In the clinic. The older boy was being held for numerous burglaries and for the theft of a car In Medford. The escape was the fourth for him. The other lad was held for several bur glaries and not long ago waa In volved In an accidental shooting in which his younger brother was in jured. Wheat Harvest Drop Expected By The Associated Press Oregon's wheat harvest gets fully under way today Monday) with the yield expected to be about 3500.000 bushels under last year's. The May drought cut sharply into the harvest In some areas, but June rains spared many fields the dam age expccled. Agriculture officials said the yield probably would be up lo long-time averages. The drought hit Morrow county hardest, cutting expected yields to 14 or 15 bushels per acre instead of the usual 16 bushels. The county AAA said that fewer than 1000 acres would have grain for harvest.. In Wasco county, though, t h e yield Is expected to be about 1500. 000 bushels, only 300.000 under last year. Sherman county expected to gel slightly smaller yields also. One Killed, Many Hurt In Accidents (Continued from Page 1) Lake o' the Woods' road about four miles below the lake. The boys are James Savage, 14. and Emmett Parker, 16. Both were taken to Hillside hospital for treat ment. Young Savage had a broken left ankle and his companion a broken right leg. Mrs. Eldora Relmann, 26, of Seat tle, had a broken right arm Mrs. Relmann was driving up the hill toward the lake when she met a truck driven by George Sanders, 916 Klamath, with Mrs. Lana Sav age of the same address, mother of the Injured boy, as a passenger. The truck was towing Uie car In which James Savage and Emmett' Parker were riding, with Savage steering uie crippled vehicle. As one passed tne truck, Mrs. Rel mann Is said to have cut In sharply and hooked a fender. She appar ently didn't see the car being towed. The Impact snapped the two cables and Uie car with the two boys plunged down Uie steep, rocky bank, turning over and over. Both boys were still In the car when It came to rest at the bottom of the slope. They and Mrs. Rel mann were brought to Hillside by ambulance. The truck and car both belonged to J. N. Barnes, 111 Sheldon. Two persons were slightly Injured In an automobile accident at Oregon avenue and Siskiyou at 3:15, Fri day. Injured are Mrs. A. N. John son, 30, and her son, Eugene, 7, both of Sacramento, Calif. Mrs. Johnson was' treated at Klamath Valley hospital for a cut on Uie head, and her son was re leased from the hospital after one night, suffering from a broken arm. C. W. Adams of route 3, driver of the car Id which the Johnson were passengers, was going northwest on Oregon when he swerved to avoid a collision with a car driven by Ver non Ward of Roseburg.
