Edwards of route 3. box 518 was admitted to Klamath Valley hospital Sunday lor major surgery. Her husband is an employe of the Ralph L. Smith Lum ber company. DeWitt previously served at the naval air station, Corpus Chris ti, Tex. Home From Japan Capt. and Mrs. Hubert F. U'Autremont are visiting their aunt, Mrs. Harry M. Briggs of 2060 Eberleln tilts week. They arrived Sunday from Seattle following a trip from the army transportation corps Kobi base in Japan, where Capt. D'Autreniont has been stationed. During the war he served in Alaska, New Guinea, the Philippines and Okinawa. The D'Autremonts are en route to their home in Los Angeles, Calif. Summer Job John Sarglnson, district ranger for Rogue River na tional forest, moved his family up to the ranger station at Lake o the Woods this week-end where they will spend a couple of months. Sar glnson will be back and forth from tlie lake to the office In town which will be kept open. Out of Season A young buck was reported jumping fences and run ning across gardens Monday morn ing. Mrs. Clifford Golden. 2305 Pat terson, just off S. 6th, reported see ing the buck in her garden about 10 a. m. It jumped several fences and took off up Hogback mountain, she said. Meeting There will be a special meeting of the board of directors of the chamber of commerce with the rates bureau in the chamber rooms. :30 tonight. Industrial develop ment as related to freight rates will be discussed. Completes Training Bernard J. Collier, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Collier of Weed, Calif., has com pleted recruit training at the naval training center, San Diego. Calif., and has been advanced to the rating of seaman, second class. Timekeepers Events at the Klamath Basin rodeo will be clocked by Gib Fleet, Roland War ren and John Bowen, who will be official timekeepers at the three day show starting July 4. Report A report of the Ameri can Legion state convention held recently in Portland will be made at a meeting of the American Le gion auxiliary. Tuesday at 8 p. m., in the Legion hall. Red Nichols Slated Here RED NICHOLS One of the famous names In American music is that of Red Nichols who brings his "Five Pen nies" to the Merrill community hall Wednesday night, 9 p. m. to 1 a. in., under the sponsorship of Baldy Evans. Nichols has given a boost up the ladder to such famous outstanding figures as Benny Goodman, Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, Miff Mole, Charlie and Jack Teagnrden, Artie Shaw. Gene Krupa and Olen Mil le. The records he has made with these people as members of his Five Pennies have become valuable additions to record collections. From 1936 to 1943 Red eitlier fronted his own baud or played as de man In some other wen known band. He reorganised his Five Pen nies, now numbering eight, in 1943. Besides being a guest on many radio programs, he has just finished a year's engagement at the Club Mo rocco in Hollywood. Resigns John W. Paxton, ex-marine who has been on the city po lice force for the past year and a half,- has resigned to join the Ore gon state police. All re servists are requested to attend. If time permits, a movie will be shown. Car Injures Tule Child TULKLAKK, June 30 Cheyrl Wahl, two-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs, John C. Wahl of Tule lake, was Injured when hit by a car near her housing project home early last night. The child was rushed to Hillside hospital by ambulance for emergen cy treatment. She was found to bo suffering from cuts and bruises about the face, but was homo this morning and doing nicely. The car was driven bv Nathan L. Verley, also a resident of the housing project. Verley told offi cers that the little girl had run out Into the street in front of his car and he had no chance to stop be fore hitting her. The girl was bleed ing profusely from the mouth when put Into the ambulance.
