Dent pointed out that- for school terms which end on or before July 31, the ex-GI student may stiU ap ply as In the past, at any time be fore the term ends, for 'his accrued leave. First summer terms at Oregon colleges end before that deadline, but all second summer sessions, and a few others, come to a close In Au gust or September. Leave pay un der public law 346 cannot be ob tained following any term which ends In August or later, unless the veterans administration has re ceived a leave request 30 days or more in advance. Subsistence Is paid for leave time at the rate of S'4 days a month, although this must be deducted from the veteran's total entitlement for training. Camp Fire Girls from all over the community will open the ground to bake potatoes on their gypsy rendezvous camp-out set for all night, Tuesday, June 34, on the Geary ranch, one mil north of Moore park. To fulfill a rank requirement, each girl must participate In a camping trip on which she must ake a responsible part In complet ing plans for the preparation of three outdoor meals, making the menus, purchasing and packing the food, and carrying it "hobo" fash Ion on a one-mile hike. Each group member is assuming a spirit of ad venture as she examines the many i outdoor recipes and methods of cooking by fireside. The girls wit! leave noon. McMfihon in her report on plans for a fall training program. Vet Auto Plea Made A last call for amputee veterans to apply for free automobiles cost ing up to $1600 was issued today by Patrick W. Kilby, veterans ad ministration representative in this area, who stated that June 30 is the deadline under present federal leg islation. In Oregon. 150 disabled ex-GI s who lost, or lost the use of, one or both legs at or above the ankle have been approved for government purchased cars, trucks or tractors. Kilby said. Vehicles have actually been delivered to 129 of these dis abled veterans. Other eligible ex-servicemen are urged to apply at the local VA of fice now. as several days may be needed bv regional office to estab lish eligibility. The veteran still has two years in which to pick out his car. but $1000 must be earmarked by the VA for his purchase by Mon day, June 30. Body of Man Found In Willamette PORTLAND. Ore.. June 23 ii The body of a man tentatively iden tified as David P. Houser, about 61. Yakima, was recovered from the Willamette river here yesterday. June 23 i.-PS Hun dreds crowded the First Methodist church, where funeral services were held yesterday for Methodist Bishop Bruce R. Baxter of the Portland area. The throng overflowed the audi torium and hallways as the Rev. Laurence E. Nye delivered the me morial address. Sea Scouts Get Training Course SEATTLE, June 23, (IP) An eight day training course at the Whldby Island naval air station was climaxed for 60 air and sea scouts from Wash ington and Oregon yesterday with 30-mlnute flights over Seattle.
