Witnesses, Thomas announced,

people's court today acquitted Dr.
Ouldo Schmidt, the Austrian foreign
minister before antchkiM, of high
treason charges.
The five-man court ruled that
charges accusing Schmidt of betray
ing Chancellor Kurt Schuschnlgg
and engineering the 1938 Austrian
link with Oermany to advance his
own interests had not been proven.
"It Is not the place of this court
to determine the rightness or wrong
ness of your pre-anschluss foreign
policy." the court said. "Our task
here Is to determine the guilt or In
nocence of this one man.'

The committee. Thomas said, did
not have time to act on a sub
committee report recommending a
full investigation of a charge of
communist Influence In a CIO union
at the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco com
pany at Winston-Salem. N. C.
Thomas said the forthcoming re
port on the Southern conference
lists Wallace as an "advisory asso
ciate" of the conference.

Production was also up. It was
3.903.401,000 feet compared with
