June S ) Herman Reiser, pro at Akron's Firestone country club and one of the coun try's top-flight golfers. Wednesday charged that the United States Golf association had discriminated against him. Keiser said that he was scheduled to participate in the U. S. Open qualifier at Filchburg. Mass.. earlier this week but an injury to his hand : received in the recent Goodall j tournament haw forced him to re- main idle for aVew days. After returning to Akron. Keiser i said he learned that the qualifier for Northern Ohio entrants had been postponed from Monday to Wednes day because of rain. He said he requested permission from Joseph Dey. USGA secretary, to play in the Canton tourney, but that lus query was not answered. :It's discrimination any way rou look at it," the Akron pro said. "The USGA made exceptions for other golfers, but refused to con sider my request." Keiser. whose hometown is Springfield. Beck Signed For Oilers OREGON STATE COLLEGE, CorvalUs, June 5 One of the high est honors that can come to a col lege basketball player was received by Lew Beck, brilliant guard on the 1947 Pacific Coast conference cham pion Oregon State quintet, last week when the Pendleton speedster was signed to plav with the famous Phil lips Oilers at Bartlesville, Okla., next season. Beck will work for the oil company as well as play on its ball club. Phillips Oilers have been the na tional AAU champions for five con secutive seasons and their team last winter was rated as one of the most powerful hoop aggregations ever as sembled in this country. Some of Its stars whom Beck will play with next season are Bob Kurltind. Gor don Carpenter and Jimmy "Scat" McNiftt. Hood River Team In Golf Tourney HOOD RIVER. June 5 P Four Hood River women held the team title for the Oregon Women's Golf Association Invitational tournament today. The team posted a low net 317 to carry off the victory. Mrs. Martin Hunter of Portland's Alderwood club took low gross honors with an 83 and Mrs. Laura Fuller, Hood River, the low net with 74.
