Kesselring Sentenced To Death VENICE. May WV-A British military court today sentenced Field Marshal Albert Kesselrliw. former supreme Oerman commander M Italy, to death by shooting after eonvlctln him of war crimes against the Italian people. Kesselrlims counsel. Dr. Hans Latemser, had declined to ask lor clemency after the verdict was an nounced, saying: "He expressly asked me not to address the court any further.' The attorney said later, however, that he himself would "appeal per aonally against the sentence. C. L. Stirling, the Judge advocate, announced that both the conyic tion'and the sentence were subject to review bv "the appropriate mili tary authority" in this case. Lt. Oeh. 8lr John Harding, commander of British central Mediterranean 'Kesselrlng was convicted on two counts, one of them accusing him of responsibility for the Ardeatlne caves massacre In which 335 Ital ians died in reprisal for the killing of 33 German police troops. He was the third German officer to be sentenced to death for that slaughter. The others were Col. Oen. Eberhard von Mackenscn, for merly second in command in Italy, and Lt. Gen Kurt Maelurr. com mander of Rome during the Ger man occupation. They were sen tenced last November, but neither of the sentences have as yet been confirmed by the high command in Italy.
