Spud Shipment
Tops Last Year
Potato shipments for this season
are still ahead of shipment dur
ing the 1945-6 season, but only by
seven carloads, according to USDA
figures. To date, there have been
10.644 carloads of tube.-s shipped
from the basin in' the HM6-7 sea
son, as compared with 10,637 for
last season.
Spud Inspector Ross Aubrey said
today that it looks like a nip and
tuck race whether shipments this
season will continue to top last sea
son's shipments at the end of the
shipping year. There are still 72
carloads listed as going out last
year between May 6 and June 3.
Aubrey said that there are about
ISO carloads of spuds left In the
basin, but he doubted that any
large percentage would be shipped
due to their poor quality.
