Man Jailed For Polygamy Robert WilUam Nlckelson; 27-year-old mechanic, was arrested by city police this morning and lodged in the county jail on a charge of polygamy. He Is alleged to have married a girl named Afton Bernlce Phelps at Medford on April 12, 1945, and the complaint against him indicates that she is still his legal wife. Then on October 26, 1946. in Washington county, Nevada, Nickel son Is said to have married a girl named Betty Lee Shearer. Sometime later they moved to Klamath Falls and lived as man and wife at 1844 Lancaster, the indict ment charges. Deputy District Attorney J. H. Napier said that Nickelson's act of bringing the second wife to Oregon to live violated the state's polygamy law, making the charge that in stead of bigamy. Nlckelson was located Just before noon and lodged in 'the county jail, and his Indictment was made public shortly after. No ball has been set in his case. (To the Edltorj This letter is being writ ten to The Herald and News to an swer some of the questions that have been brought up in connection with the Teen-Age club. I have offered my building space on the first floor to the adult coun cil and the youngsters to house their fine organization. The stu dents should benefit greatly from the Improved location, new club rooms, and a rent-free lease. This lease will be written by the adult council, itself, and will protect them in. every instance. I have al so requested that they Include In the leass that should I sell I will gladly return their money Involved in the remodeling. The fact that I will allow the TAC to use the downstairs, makes it absolutely necessary that the upstairs be remodeled into davtime offices that will not be disturbed by the confusion of the student ac tivities. In addition, I must build an extension to the downstairs to house the heating plant and re model the exterior.: This will in volve me in a greater expense than faced by the TAC- To compensate for this and the lossJof my Income, I have requested the adult, council that I reserve enough space to build and operate a fountain for the students only. I hope to have the fountain opeu at noon and after school, and in the evenings for the club meetings. This was met with a complete agreement on the part of the adult council. The fact that the fountain will be adequate to cover my Interest on the building is pure speculation and may or may not be satisfactory. However. I am willing to take this chance and t sincerely am very much concerned with the young sters getting a fflr and souare deal. If there is anyone else who has an offer of a building that would be more satisfactory than my own. I hope that they win contact the adult council at once. I hope that this letter will clarify any questions. I have no secrets and will welcome any additional questions or sureestions from par ents and organizations, and I hope that they will feel free to contact me at any time at the Lake hotel My only suggestion Is thnt this problem of accenting the building for the club moves slowly enough that every problem will be ade quately solved and everv auestion answered to the satisfaction of every one concerned. I mioht also point out that this information was mentioned in the article published on the front page of The Herald and News in a rernt issue. -Thank votl. ATHER SMITH. ELMER PRAYS KLAMATH FALLS.
