A distinction in dramatic circles
In Los Angeles was won by Mrs.
Beardsley on the production of her
religious play. "If The Light Be
Darkness," produced this spring,
which brought outstanding notice in
Variety magazine. Her play has
been accepted by publishers and
will be offered to the public in the
fall printing of Samuel French.

Air Transport
Hearing Opens
PORTLAND. Ore., April 21 lPV-1
A civil aeronautics board hearing
on proposals to establish regular
air transport service between Portland-Seattle
and - Hawaii opened
here today.
Testimony will be taken from 14
public agencies and the four appli
cants for serving the route. Two
carriers. United Air Lines and Pa
cific Overseas Airlines corporation,
which oppose the new route also
will be heard during the hearing
expected to require two or more
weeks to complete.
Applicants are MaLson Naviga
tion company, which has been
operating non-scheduled flights or
months: Northwest Airlines, which
has sought the route for several
years: Transocean Air Lines: and
Pan-American Airways, which has
announced it considers the route
unnecessary but if approved asks
