March 31 oil The house passed :I0 to 10 and sent to the governor late Saturday the bill to close the Umpqua river and its tributaries for six years to commercial fishing. Tho battle over the bill lasted for an hour, with sport fisher men winning over the commer cial fishermen. However, before the bill goes lo the governor, tile senate must act on a house amendment which provided tint the Smith river also be included in the closure. Foreigners Win Honors At Kandahar TIMBERLINE LODGE, Ore., March 31 OP) Top honors n the Far West Kandahar races went to ski ace from Switzer land and Canada here yesterday a blinding storms cancelled downhill events and awards went to slalom winners in first day competition. Cascade Summit' Tool Shop Burnt CASCADE SUMMITT, March 31 A fire which came near burning Elmer Adkison's tool shop to the ground broke out Wednesday morning by the back fire of a gasoline engine's ignit ing the gasoline in the tank o! the engine. Adklson tried to ex tinguish the flame but was over come by the fume from the fire extinguisher which he was using. Mr. Adklson called the S. P. station agent and Vern Law and his men who were at the station at the time responded and ex tinguished the fire.
