Friday Dinner The Willard hotel bowling team entertained the sponsors, Mr. and Mm. W. D. Miller, with a Valentine's Day dinner party Friday evening of last week at the Log Cabin inn. Mra. Miller wat presented with a corsage of red rosea and Mr. Miller re c e i v e d photograph of the team. Present were Mr. and Mm. Miller, Mr. and Mm. C. R. Long, Mrs. E. Borden, Mrs. Cliff Bax ter, Mr. Bemice Britt. Mrs. Martha McCollum and Mm. A. C. Backes. Banquet Held The annual banquet of the Spanish American War Veterans and auxiliary was held Saturday evening at the Red Rooster cafe when members of Herbert Ap plegate. camp, No. 25, enter tained. Guests were World War I and II veterans and their wives. J. H. Carnahan, member of the post, presided at the banquet. The tables were uecoratcd with bowls of acacia in which were net American flags, and tiny flags marked the place of each ?uest. Thirty-one were present or the banquet and guests in cluded, Mr. and Mm. J. E. Bon ner. Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Sim monds, Mr. and Mra. E. V. Zell, Mr. and Mm. Jack Roper and Mrs. Mabel Brochtrup. This Week ; Circles of the Womans Society of Christian Service of the First Methodist church met Thursday, February 13, for their regular monthly meetings. Ruth circle met at the home of Mra. L. K. Phelps of 19S7 Auburn, and 25 attended Mra. J. C. Hunt, chair man of the circle, presided over the business mooting and Mra. Glenn Kent led the devotions whilo Mrs. Bruce Blnklcy was leader of the study hour. There, wus one gueat, und all enjoyed the social time which completed the afternoon's program. Esther circle was entertained at the home of Mm. Arthur Skinner of 418 Pine, and she was assisted by Mra. William Wales Jr. The Valentine motif was used for the table decora tion, and refreshments were served to 20 ladies. Mrs. W, F. Bruell of Redflcld, S. D., sister of Mm. E. H. Balaigcr and her house guest for the winter, was a guest, and another was Mrs Lowell Kaup who Joined at this time. Mm. O. R. Holioway, chair man, was In charge of the busi ness meeting and Mm. John Yadon led the devotions. Martha circle met at 236 South Eldorado, the home of Mm. W. A. Carleton, and 11 attended. Mrs. Mark Taylor had charge of the business meeting and the devotions were given by the entire group, led by Mrs. Cow man. A birthday cake was served in honor of Mrs. L. J. Brink's birthday, which falls upon Val entine's Day, Mrs. Bruce Hulsc of 1418 John son was hostess to Miriam circle and she was assisted by Mrs. Earl Redman. They served dessert to nine members and one gueat, Mrs. Eva Howe. Mrs. W. T. Withrow, chairman, conducted the devotions and the business meeting, with a short patriotic program following, and the clos ing prayer was offered by Miss Miriam Smythe. Mra. Withrow appointed Mrs. Eldred Putnam to fill the secretary's position in lieu of Mm. Joseph Hiker who asked to be' replaced. Mrs. Hulse then told something of her work as home economics teacher in Sue Bennett college in Kentucky during the war. Her account of the customa and needs of the people there and the pictures she showed were most interesting. Mrs. Eldred Putnam will be host ess in March. Mrs. Christ Huck, a former momber who has returned from Brookings to make her home again in Klamath Falls, told of her recent trip to New York and of some of the interesting and amusing scenes and events con nected with it . Shower Mrs. Charles DuFour enter tained February 19 at her home in Pelican City in honor of Mra. Harry Do Loach, the for mer Elizabeth Bruner who was married here January 23. The affair was a miscellaneous bridal shower and gifts were piled under a white umbrella for Mm. DcLoach to open.
