Mrs. Benny Lawyer Is re cuperating very nicely irom the flu. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Moore are spending their vacation with Mrs. Moore's mother at Boise, Ida. . . Dorrls, Calif., defeated Sprague River Warriors in a basketball game Monday eve ning 27 to 37. A very good crowd was present. Wavne Welch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Welch, is home from hospital feeling very good. Mrs. George Cram has un dergone a major operation at the Klamath Valley hospital. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Runnels have left for a week, to spend their vacation. Charles Barney and Heby Snell have returned from Rlv enide, Calif. They will finish school here. The culminating activity for ., the March of Dimes campaign in Sprague River was a basketball game, pie social and a grand March of Dimes given on Friday evening, January 31, in the school gymnasium. 1.1 .1 11 MI-MrtA MM IDC uaa&eiuaii game was played by the Sprague River "A" and "B" teams for an entertain . ing feature for the evening. This was followed by the pie auction. The pies brought by girls below the sixth grade were auctioned off to the boys of the same grade level, by Mr. Curry. As Mrs. Ethel Parkey played a march the audience. -marched around -the gymnasium and dropped their contribution into a container. Everyone attending reported a nice time. Proceeds totaled $87.04. school equaled $37.70. . The total from Sprague River equalled $170.97. The committee wishes to thank each and every one who helped in any way toward making this campaign a success. Mrs. Mary Smith, 80-year-old Langtll valley resident, has ar rived in Scotland and is visiting relatives whom sha hasn't seen for nearly 30 years. She sailed from New York February 5 and arrived in Scotland Febru ary 10. LANGELL VALLEY Mrs. Mary Smith, mother of Mrs. Harry Frazier, sailed from New York on the Queen Elizabeth February 5 and arrived in Scot land February 10. She plans on staying six months with her sister, Mrs. Kate Eastman, in Armadale. Mrs. Smith has two other sisters and many other relatives in Scotland with whom she plans to visit. It was 55 years ago that Mrs. Smith left Scotland to come to America. This is her first visit to her native country and she will be 80 years old in Novem ber. She made the ocean trip alone. Mrs. Frazier took her mother as far as Yuba City where she visited two sons and attended the wedding of a granddaughter, then a son accompanied them to Sacramento where she boarded the Overland Flyer for New York. Mrs. Smith was met in New York by a nephew, William Strachan, and she spent a week on the east coast visiting rela tives in Massachusetts and New Jersey before she sailed for Scotland. She plans to bring her youngest sister back with her for her first visit to the United States. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Thrader ar rived in Chemult Monday, Feb ruary 10, to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Thompson. The Thraders are from Wash ington. Gilchrist GILCHRIST, Feb. 19 Funds were collected in Gilchrist, Shev lin, Crescent and Crescent Lake by the Grizzliettes of Gilchrist High school to help In financing the basketball team's trip to the tournament at Klamath Falls. The following captains were chosen from each community: Gloria Hyatt. Gilchrist; Jackie Proke, Shevlln; Margaret Gud dat. Crescent; Hilla Chavez, Crescent Lake. The club set its goal at 3200 which was collected through the generous donations of the people. The student body and teachers would like to take this oppor tunity to show their appreciation by thanking the residents of each community for their co operation in this drive.
