The bill would five the fish
commission power to make reg
ulations as to seasons ana oiner
matters, which now must be
handled bv legislation.
Ed Foss, Portland, and Chris
Kowitz, Salem, representing
sports fishing organizations, said
the bill would give the fish com
mission too much power over
sports fishing. They feared the
bill would permit the fish com'
mission to open up to commer
cial fishing some waters now
closed to it,
Foss said the fish commission
has failed to conserve fish, and
urged that the fish and game
commissions be made to co
operate more closely.
John C. Veatch, Portland,
chairman of the fish commission,
said the bill would allow the
commission to have a real con
servation program. He said Ore

than any other state, and that
both Washington and California
give their fish departments
power to make regulations.

Neely of Texas Wesleyan seems
certain to capture this year's na
tional collegiate basketball indi

Lacy, who two weeks ago
trailed McNeely by only 29
points, now is 89 points behind
with 494 points compared to
McNeely's 583. The Texas flash
rimmed 74 points during the
week to 32 for Lacy. McNeely
still is the only player reported
to have crossed the 500-point
mark.
E. F. Parham, McNeely's team
mate, retained third place at 449
points.- So did John Wilson of
Anderson (Ind.) at 440,' but a
new player, DarreJl Brown of
Humboldt (Calif.) State, took
over the fifth. rung with 432.

Talking about a bill to require
that instructors in barber col

"You have to sit there in the
chair and listen to them talk, so
all barbers should have an edu

they're talking about"
The committee thought so too,
and recommended passage of the

Brings Blast
ABILENE, Tex., Feb. 19 VP)
Warren B. Woodson, coach of
Hardin-Simmons university, de
livered a blast at professional
football today for signing college
players before they had complet
ed their eligibility.
Declaring "if we let this type
of bidding for college players
continue before the student is
through -with his education, we
might as well declare a mora
torium on our football." Woodson
charged that professional scouts
had even interviewed members
of his team on the days of im
portant games.
Woodson's blast came two days
after announcement that his star
back, Rudolph (Little Doc) Mob
ley, had signed a contract to
play with the Baltimore Colts of
the All-America football confer
ence although the two-time little
all-America had still ' another
year of eligibility left at the
