At that time he and his lather purchased property here and bought a small bakery In the Link river district which they operated until 1911. At that time they were Joined by Syd ney Evans' brother, Milton Percy Evans, and the three, the father and two sons, went into the grocery business together oper ating the Monarch grocery at 6th and Main streets where Rudy's Menstore now stands. Later the firm was moved up the street to the location of the Connolly Saddlery and across the street from the building which burned Sunday. In 1920, Sydney Evans and his brother, Percy, built the Evans apartments and together operat ed the Sunset grocery which later was owned solely by Percy Evans and recently sold to Walter Wiesendanger. Joseph Evans, father of the two men, died here in 1918, his wife in June, 1935. After Sydney Evans left the grocery business he opened a furniture store in the present lo cation of the Roberts Hardware company, and his partners in cluded at various times, both ' the late Frank Lucas, father of Marvin K. Lucas and Mrs. Don Anderson of Lucas Furniture company, and Charles Balin, now of Ashland. Mr. Evans was a Klamath pio neer and member of a well known basin family. his furniture store to Charles Balin as his hearing was poor and he wished to retire from ac tive business. He devoted his time to the Sunset ranch on Alameda drive which has long been the family home. A month ago. negotiations were under way by Sydney Evans for purchase of his broth er Percy's share in the Evans apartments. Percy Evans is ill in an Ashland hospital and has not been apprised of the holo caust which took his brother's life. Mr. Evans held considerable property in Klan.ath Falls, both residential and business. His wife, Mrs. Lora Evans, was in San Diego visiting relatives at the time of his death and was ad vised by members of the family. She arrived here last night by train. In addition to Mrs. Evans, he is survived by two sons, Joe and Percy, and one daughter, Mrs. Joy Rolph, all of Klamath Falls, three grandchildren and also one nephew, Kenneth Rob erts, theatre operator at Chilo quin. Final rites will be announced by the Earl Whitlock Funeral home. City Delivery Service. Ph. (417. USBR Faces Attacks In Congress WASHINGTON. Feb. 18 (P The reclamation bureau, a gov ernmental activity operating only in the 17 western states, faces attack on four fronts in this congress. Measures already are on file to: 1. Revise, probably upward, its power rate structure; 2. Revoke its authority to cre ate new districts without spe cific congressional authority: 3. Recover its earning for the general fund. These are before legislative committees. In addition, it must defend a sharply restricted construction budget before an economy-minded appropriations committee. The legislative problems all have come to the front because of the increasing cost of new irri gation projects, due both to high er construction costs since the war and to the fact that most economically irritable tracts al ready are operating or under construction. It used to be said Unit federal power rates were to be a yard stick for control of private rates. Now that rcvenuo from power must be counted upon to help repay the cost of irrigation projects, even friends of irriga tion are anxious to obtain from this source all the traffic will bear. The new proposal is a little confusing to a layman but a man who participated in conferences which resulted in the bill intro duced last week by Senator Butler (R-Neb.) and Rep.
