This prun ing and thinning of the forest stand was the beginning of a long-term plan of the Fremont forest for Increasing the quality and quantity of timber grown. It is a part of the forest service program for more intensively managing the forest. The two projects recently completed included 120 acres on Drews creek below Drews dam and 50 acres at Snyder meadow in the McDonald area. It is hoped that work can be renewed later this spring in the Snyder mea dow area. Forest officials esti mate that 300,000 acres of tim ber land on the Fremont needs this type of work. However, funds are available for only a small percentage of this total.
