Grange Maata - Pomona grange will hold a meeting at the Midland grange hall next Saturday at 10 a. m. Cleaners Buy Building Here Purchase of a two-story brick building at 1118 Main street front E. D. Isensee was an nounced today by Mr. and Mrs. Bob Henry, owners and oper ators of the Reliable Cleaners, which moves this week to the new location. The structure was bought by Mr. and Mrs. Henry lute In 1946. with possession on Febru ary 1. Purchase price was given in the neighborhood of $30,000, Henry said. Reliable Cleaners will move from 121 S. 9th, location occu pied by the firm for the past aeven years, during the latter fiart of the week and will be do n g business Monday, February 10. Isensee, who operated the Cascado Cleaners In the build ing is moving to his own plant at 320 S. 7th. Isensee purchased the Main street structure from Lester Thompson several years ago. It was built originally by Russell Bussard. The Henrys will occupy the apartment over the plant. The transaction was handled by the Neal Stewart agency. Vets Council To Sponsor Meeting The Allied Veterans council will sponsor a meeting tonight, Wednesday, at the chamber of commerce with the purpose of developing Information and co ordination In the veterans' wel fare program. Officials of the council said that there is considerable con fusion about the functions of various welfare groups, and the purpose of the meeting is to develop a clear picture of this situation. Representatives of vet erans, welfare agencies, and any other Interested persons arc wel come to attend. Truck Firms Dissatisfied With Deal Truck opcrulors today Indi cated in a statement to The Herald und News that tho 11:30 a. in. parking proposal does not alleviate their parking troubles and they Intend to udvise the city council of their opinion. The council's proposition Is "definitely not the answer," suld Charles F. Dane, muniigcr of the Bend Portland truck service. "What the truckers are asking for Is u place to park their trucks for the purpose of loading und unloading merchandise," he said. "Thut Is what wo orlglnully asked for und so fur there is no moro space In the downtown urcu than before," At a meeting January 27. a group of truckers and inert-hunts asked the city council to cither establish loading zones for the use of trucks, or allow double parking. The council answered the request by allowing trucks to park anywhere In the downtown area without restriction before 11:30 each morning, but limiting unv one company to a maximum of two trucks ufter that time, one for pick-up work, the other for delivery. The truckers' principal com Dtulnt was thut their trucks would not fit Into a regular purxing space, and it was diffi cult to find two parking spaces together near any certain point of delivery, - Dune stated that the truckers were not particularly looking for a wuy to escape paying the me ters, what they wanted were places to park while operating. Ho pointed out that the truckers' slack season Is now and If truck ers ure having difficulty, they must expect much worse condi tions later unless something is done about it. Don Sloan of the Sloan com pany slated that the proposal "sidestepped the truckers' prob lem entirely." He added that a riroperlv policed series of louri ng zones was ttu only practical solution to the problem. In re ference to Mnyor Ostendorf's re mark that the public was gen erally opposed to loading zones, both Dane and Sloan slated that the public should be educated and advised of the necessity for irucxs to nave easy access to business establishments. Racing License Bill Proposed SALEM, Feb. 5 (A') Reps. Henry Scmon, Klamath Falls, and Giles L. French. Moro. In troduced a bill today to have the state racing commission license racing rooms in which bets arc taken. The licenses would cost $300 a year. Dimes Drive Still Short The March of Dimes drive, still short of Klamath county's aim, hus been continued this week to Include the basketball came set for Saturday, Feb. 8. Ashley Chevrolet will play Oregon Frosh In the K.UH3 gym at 8:30 p.m. Saturday and the entire proceeds will go to the fight ugulnst Infantile paralysis, Mrs. Dcna D. Backcs. Klamath county chapter chairman, said today. Collection cans will be left in downtown business houses this week for the convenience of those who still may want to con tribute to the cause. Response from outlying com munities In the drive has been very commendable, Mrs. Backcs said, with little Sprague River turning in $05, proceeds from its basketball game. lily community collected over $200 for the cause. Schools arc also to be com mended for an excellent job, the chairman stated. The report just received from Shasta school shows $04 contributed by the 330 pupils enrolled. The drive will definitely be concluded February 8. By that date all communities and schools should have their reports in, dime containers will be picked up and contents counted. Total contribution for the drive from Klamath county will be announced the early part of next week.
