Democrat Byrd Tops GOP Demand For Spending Cuts By JACK BELL WASHINGTON. Jan. 20 The Tulclake Growers association will hold a special dinner meet ing Wednesday when represen tatives from the California of fice, field service branch, of the production and marketing ad ministration, will discuss the government's potato price sup port program. Growers will meet at the Sportsman's hotel at 6:30 p. m. The administration men will have complete instructions on the procedure on which all grow ers who have potatoes under loan to the government may ob tain immediate assistance in dis position of them. Sugar beet acreage and 1947 contracts will occupy part of the session. The state men' who will be present are Roland Ballou, Mr. Page, and Norriss Chambers of Berkeley, and Hans Karstcnson of Yreka. The Growers' board of direc tors will present additional in formation of interest to mem bers, according to Clifford Wood, manager. Wood added that the state production and marketing office expects to keep a full time rep resentative in lulelake to ex pedite its program. Portrait1 Studio Slates Contest Miller's portrait studio this week announced a baby contest which the studio will sponsor starting February 1 and con tinuing through February 28. The contest is open to all chil dren between the ages of three months and including five years, residing in Klamath county and the Tulelake area. Judging will be done by popu lar vote, it was announced by Bob Jones, operator of the stu dio, and there will be 19 prizes awarded to 19 winners. Pictures will be on display at Miller's during the contest. Those wish ing to enter their children are asked to make appointments as soon as possible. Skid Into Bridge Fatal To One PORTLAND, Jan. 20 UP) James F. Dewey, 22. was fatally 'Injured last night on the Mt Hood highway when an automo bile in which he was a passenger skidded on the ice and struck the Cedar Creek canyon bridge abut ment. He estimated that 1.000.000 of the 2,400.000 government em ployes could be cut off the pay roll's "without impairing effi ciency.
