Liquor Big Arrest Cause A breakdown of the city po lice department' arrest record for 1946 show that liquor wag the cause of the great majority of booking! during the year which aaw a record of 4260 ar rests for all offenaes. In 1046 there were 2260 per sons arrestea xor arunxenness. The usual result was either a $10 fine or five days in Jail, and the number of fines paid or $10 bails jumped contributed materially to the $38,340.95 collected by the police judge lor tne year. In addition to the drunken ness arrests. 111 were made for other booze law violations, such as selling liquor to Indians. For disorderly conduct, which usual ly implies a certain amount of liquor consumption, the arrest total was 504, and for drunk driving 32. - The breakdown also shows 213 bookings for vagrancy, 789 for traffic violations, 72 for reck less driving, four persons for assault and seven for carrying concealed weapons. Also during the year, 8634 persons paid off traffic tickets. Only one automobile accident fatality occurred inside the city limits during 1946, and likewise one railroad fatality. The arrest total of 4260 for the police department in 1946 marked the biggest year of busi ness since the establishment of the force. In 1945 the total was 3513 and in 1944 it was 3812.
