Bill, who is a GI vet sopho more in college, has been wear ing the white foliage and rocking Tule Youths Held In Tire Theft TULELAKE, Dec. 23 Four young men who police officers say have past records of theft in various parts of California, were picked up at Oroville, Calif., this past week and charged with stealing a tire and wheel from Balsigcr, Inc., of Tulelnke. The arrest was made by. Sheriff W. H. Forward of Butte county, according to Chief of Police Frank Rhodes, who returned from the south today. Charged are Jack Crawford, 28, and Jack Newell, 20, who were sentenced to San Quentin penitentiary, and Joe Newell, 18, and Homer Maguire, 16, turned over to Juvenile authorities. Of ficers said that when the four were arrested they had 1000 pounds of walnuts in their pos session and were peddling them. They also faced a theft charge in Gridley, according to Chief Rhodes. Sugar Stamp To Be Valid WASHINGTON, Dee. 23 (At OPA said today spare stamp No. 53 will be-good for five pounds of sugar beginning January 1 and added an additional ration may become available within four months. "It is anticipated," the agency said, "that the second consumer stamp for 1947 will be validated before spare stamp 53 expires" April 30. OPA pointed to agriculture' department estimates that the new sugar crop may be suffi ciently large to allow an addi tional five pounds of sugar a per son in 1947. This would make a total of 20 pounds on regular ra tion stamps. Three regular stamps were validated during 1948 allowing a total of 15 pounds per person, in addition to two home canning stamps good for live pounds each. As for the canning sugar out look for next year, an OPA offi cial declared that "If the supply situation turns out as good as ex pected, there will be at least 10 pounds per person and possibly more." CHRISTMAS TREE FIRE KILLS FOUR OTTAWA, Dec. 23 (At A Christmas tree caught fire to day at a barracks which had been converted into a home for veterans and four children burned to death. Mrs. Patrick Zebcigny, mother of the vic tims, who ranged in age from four months to six years, was injured critically. A branch of the tree was reported ignited by an nearby grill.
