Dec. 13 W) Coin collecting the world's old eat hobby is enjoying such a boom now that a ten-inch strand of Indian wampum costs a hun dred bucks. But the price has zoomed too late to help the unwary redskin who fashioned this e'-icll money centuries before John Smitii be came the most popular name in the phone books. Wampum is just one of 100, 000 specimens of money stocked in stacks by the Stack brothers Joseph B. and Morton since their grandfather became a coin dealer in 1858. If you think coin collecting is Just an Indian-head penny game for the kiddies it may interest you to know that this year the Stack firm sold a $3 gold piece minted in San Francisco for 116,000. Hoax But you have to be careful. The Slacks know a man who paid $5000 for what he thought was a $5 gold piece of 1815. When -he tried to insure it, how ever, it turned out to be an 1813 gold piece worth only $50. A counterfeiter had worked on tie piece. Coin collecting is now in the midst of its biggest boom with an estimated quarter of a mil lion followers in this country, lone.
