cai jlbright Again Proposes l hat Truman Resign Post WASHINGTON. Dee. 12 IF Senator J. William Fulbrwht, :Arir V rrriittnd President Truman todav with a "very good v." in hnnriiino the pnnl strike crisis but china to his recom- endatlon that the chiel executive resign in favor of a repub--an " n'..r.iia harrase of criticism from both fellow democrats and republicans, the 41-year-old lawmaker said he still is con vinced that Mr. Truman should step down "for the good of the country and for the good of his party." Fulbrinht, former Oxford scholar and university president, first advanced his proposal the day after the November 3 elec lion In which the republicans swept to control ol congress. Mr Truman himself brushed aside any comment, but the white House made u ciear me president had no miemion 01 quitting. "My suggestion is not a re flection on anyone's integrity, patriotism, or anything else," the senator told a reporter to day. "It would merely correct an obvious defect in our pres ent system which has resulted when the president is a mem ber of one party and the ma jority of congress another." As for Mr. Truman's role In the coal crisis, Fulbright de clared: "I think President Truman did a very good Job in con vincing John L. Lewis that he meant business and was not go ing to give in. I certainly think that was well handled." However, the Arkansas sena : tor continued, unless the . presi i dent retires in favor of a re ' publican, these things are in J prospect: 1. There will be no coopera Ltion between the republican i congress and the democratic ad 1 ministration, and the next two ! years will be spent In "squab , bling, investigations and at l tempts to show the democratic ! party is no good." ! 2. The republicans probably I will win the 1948 election, and ; democratic strength in congress may decline to the same level I the republicans sank to at the J peak of the new deal, j 3. Mr. Truman may leave of ' fice in 1948 under much the "1 same circumstances as when (President Hoover stepped out tin 1932 fter trying in vain to I cooperate with democratic con Igressional majorities for two I years. v i CHILDREN S i NIGHT COUGHS S& J Wben coughing spasms ot colas are so alarming, renetro onngs com fort and encourages restful sleep.
