0 tails Worked Out For Hew Memorial Cemetery ' The committee working out details of operating tile new Memoriul cemetery has decided that concrete boxes will be used In the bottom of all graves in the place of wooden casket cov erings, to facilitate perpetual tare work at tie cemetery. Also the committee has decided that Mo headstones raised above the level of the ground will be al lowed. 1 Wooden boxes used in many 'cemeteries rot in a few months and cause the ground to settle, thereby making it necessary to fill in and re-sod several times before a grave is in permanent condition. The city will furnish the boxes. Grave markers to be used will be bronze plates set in concrete and installed at ground level, so that mowers can pass over Kie markers. These regulations are in line with, the best practices of well kept cemeteries in other cities, the committee explains. Individual graves in Memorial cemetery are priced at from $25 to $125, and family lots contain ing six gravesitcs can be pur chased. Persons who already have lots in Linkville cemetery may turn in those sites on lots In Memorial cemetery and re ceive a S5 reduction in the new ;purchase price. Graves in Linkville cemetery may be moved to Memorial cem etery by the city's caretaking land grave digging crew for the price of opening and closing the ,old and new graves. ; Twenty-five per cent of all the imoney taken in on lot purchases will be set aside in a trust fund by the city, the interest to be ;used in the perpetual care of the i cemetery. The city expects to 'increase the percentage going in- to the fund as more money is ; needed for the care. . Brumbaugh, architect, laid out the ground plans. Lower Court Action Delayed WASHINGTON, Dec. 11 (Pi Federal Judge T. Alan Golds borough today approved an agreement between government and John L. Lewis attorneys to delay until late January any fur ther lower court action against the United Mine Workers grow ing out of the recent coal strike. The Joint stipulation approved by Judge Goldsborough provides that anv further litigation be deferred until ten days after the rupreme court hears arguments on the appeal of Lewis and the miners from their contempt con victions in Goldsborough's court. The appeal is due to be argued January 14. Hinging on the appeal are fines of $10,000 on the UMW president and $3,500,000 on the union. Lawyers were of the opinion that the supreme court will re quire no more than two weeks to conclude the case there. Land Mine Explodes On China Airfield TIENTSIN, Dec. 11 W The newspaper Ta Kung Pao report ed today a U. S. marine cater- Eillar tractor hit a Japanese war lid mine at Tsingto airfield Tuesday and the unidentified marine driver and the machine were blown up. The airfield was damaged, preventing landing of a Chinese National airways plane. They stole it from the front of the home of Policeman Henry Bocox. They cracked it up at the home of Policeman C. E. Bertiaux. Both policemen were in the squad car which recov ered the automobile. T'.ie thieves were familiar enough with the city to escape. SUSPICIOUS PEOPLE ST. PAUL. Minn.. Dec. 11 IJP) Police Dispatcher Eddie Conley called squad car No. 553 to "check on two suspicious men sitting in a parked car at Sher burne and Pascal avenues." The squad car easily found the men in question a couple of de tectives who were looking for other suspicious men. It (, . -The civilian production administra tion was accused of unreasonable and capricious conduct yesterday by an attorney in federal covirt. Ft. B. Kester, representing Will H. Jones, Rogue River, in an In junction suit, declared the con duct was defeating the CPA's purpose to speed housing con struction. He contended the motel which the CPA stopped Jones from completing wis the kind of hous ing needed in the Grants Pass area until permanent homes can be built. The government charged Jones with continuing construction without a permit. A temporary injunction was obtained to stop him earlier. The CPA now seeks to have the injunction made per manent. . Disgusted Miner Reenlisrs In Army LOUISVILLE. Ky Dec. 11 (P) Woodrow Slusher, 31-year-old Lynch, Ky., coal miner and war veteran, reenltsted in the armed forces here Tuesday because the army "never goes on a strike." Slusher, who spent three years with the army in the Pacific and European areas with a paratroop unit, had been employed as a miner since his discharge. 'There was pretty good money in it," Slusher said, referring to his coal mining job, "but 'the strikes cut down the total too much. We've been on strike three times during the year and a half I've been out of the army. "Every time I got a biscuit on the table somebody snatched it away." British Rescue Stranded Jews JERUSALEM, Dec. 11 ,' The British navy announced to day that 742 shipwrecked Jaw 'h refugees had been evacuated from the lonoly byrina by two British warships and now are en route to Sudn bay at Crete, where the immigrants are to bo transferred to a hospi tal ship and thenco to Cyprus. The announcement said tho rescue was carried out "in ex tremely rough seas and in ex treme difficulty." Proposed' Fish Bill Rapped At Meeting PORTLAND, Dec. 11 (A1) A proposed bill which would in crease the state fish commis sion's authority was criticized by both sports and commercial fishermen at a public hearing Monday. The spokesman for a sports fishermen's group said the pro posal would be sta lled to deter mine whether it did not threaten protective legislation now in ef fect. Commercial fishermen ar gued for liberalized regulations, particularly along tie Columbia river.
